Fanning the Flame
2 Timothy 1:6-7
The Campfire Analogy: Imagine a campfire that starts with a small spark. To keep it burning, you need to add wood, blow on the embers, and protect it from the wind. A fire that has died down will not respond well to an armload of logs dumped on it. Without flames, the logs will actually choke the remaining embers. Small, dried twigs and extra air will have to be used to “fan the flames” back to life. Then the fire will be able to handle larger wood.
A time of spiritual dryness shouldn’t be treated by taking on a monumental spiritual challenge of “large logs.” Instead, seek sources for spiritual rekindling. Our faith needs constant nurturing through prayer, reading the Bible, and fellowship with other believers. Just as a campfire can go out if neglected, our spiritual fervor can diminish if we don't actively fan the flame.
What are areas in your spiritual life that need more attention and what are some practical steps to nurture your faith? How can you “Fan the Flame” of your faith to either rekindle a cold fire or stoke a hot fire into a raging inferno?
