Holy Spirit
Holy Spirit
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
Most people understandably think of the Son when the topic of human redemption comes up, and understandably so, since Christ obediently became a lowly human in order to greatly suffer & die for our sins so that we might be reconciled to the Creator and have eternal life (Philippians 2:5-11 & John 3:16). Yet the Holy Spirit plays a strategic role as well.
For instance, the Holy Spirit:
Holy Ghost
Convicts us of our need of salvation (John 16:7-11)
John 16:7–11 “7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.”
Draws us to the Lord (John 6:44)
John 6:44 “44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.”
Gives us spiritual rebirth (John 3:6 & Titus 3:5)
John 3:6 “6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
Titus 3:5 “5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;”
which baptizes us into Christ (1 Corinthians 2:11)
1 Corinthians 2:11 “11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.”
Circumcises our hearts (Romans 2:29)
Romans 2:29 “29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.”
Indwells us (1 Corinthians 3:16 & 2 Corinthians 6:16)
1 Corinthians 3:16 “16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”
Empowers us (Romans 8:11 & Acts 1:8)
Romans 8:11 “11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”
Acts 1:8 “8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
Guides us (John 16:13)
John 16:13 “13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”
Teaches us (John 14:26)
John 14:26 “26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
Helps, comforts and intercedes for us (John 16:17) (the Greek word paraklétos means all three)
Sanctifies us (1 Peter 1:2)
1 Peter 1:2 “2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.”
And Seals us for salvation (Ephesians 1:13)
As you can see, the Holy Ghost’s role in human redemption is quite significant. Appreciation of the awesome Spirit of God.

More on the Holy Spirit Convicting People
Here’s what Christ said about the Holy Ghost convicting the lost:
John 16:7–11 “7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.”
The Spirit of God convicts the world in three ways
Of sin, which means to miss the mark morally and whose wages is eternal death (Romans 6:23)
Romans 6:23 “23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Of righteousness because our righteousness is filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6) and we desperately need the gift of righteousness thru Christ Jesus (Romans 5:17 & 2 Corinthians 5:21)
2 Corinthians 5:21 “21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
Of judgment because, apart from the Anointed One, people will have to stand before the LORD at the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11-15)
When you intercede for those who are lost & dying in this world, pray accordingly.
Of course the Holy Spirit also convicts believers of sin, which is part of the process of sanctification and keeps one in fellowship with the LORD along with God’s grace/favor flowing into his/her life (1 John 1:7-9).
Our need for Christians is to be filled with The Spirit -
The need of the world is to be drawn by the Spirit -
