“These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
Here in John we see Jesus leaving the disciples a special, specific message before he goes.
Jesus gives us a trinitarian picture of the Godhead as explains that the Father sent the Son, who will send the Spirit in His absence.
The 1st - Sent the 2nd - who sends the 3rd!
The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit!
But for what purpose? Why is Jesus sending the Spirit?
Well your first reaction may be “so he can live in our hearts!” Which is a good, solid SS answer.
But we have to remember that this is a message that is given directly to the disciples…
For the purpose of teaching and remembering…
Teaching and remembering what…These things!
What things….THE WORD OF GOD!
First Church of Pascagoula had just voted in a brand new, charismatic, fire breathing, soul saving, Preacher of the Word! Oh How they were so excited!
The first Sunday Morning…The Preacher took the pulpit and preached a message like the People of First Church Pascagoula had never heard before!
O how the people rejoiced! It was such a great Sunday!
The next Sunday the people of First Church of Pascagoula arrived at Church and could not wait to hear what God had given the Preacher that morning!
The preacher took the pulpit and preached the same sermon from the same text as he had preached the following Sunday!
The Next Sunday….He preached it again! And then Again…and Again!
The Deacons…fearing a mutiny and wondering if the preacher had fell off his rocker…approached the pastor and said, “Preacher…you’ve preached the same sermon from the same text for 12 weeks…don’t you think that its time to move on?
The preacher turned and ask the deacons…Well…Have you seen the text being lived out by our people?
NO!!! One of the deacons answered in frustration!
Neither have I replied the Preacher….When we get busy living out this text…then we will move onto the next!
The Next Sunday after the pastor preached!
Seven deacons and their wives got saved
And 25, 000 dollars was raised
And 50 volunteered for missions in the Congo on the spot
And even without an invitation
There were at least 500 rededications
And they all got re-baptized, whether they needed it or not
The Preacher moved on!
When we are asked how does a person become closer to the Lord? Our first answer is Pray and Read the Bible~!
But we never do it…then we wonder why our lives don’t look like Christ, as we walk out the sanctuary offended because the preacher just sat in the middle of us!
The Word is what Changes the Heart of Men!!!
You want to be changed!! Study the Word!
