Let’s get in to the WORD- Turn your Bible to Psalm 34: 1-8
A Psalm of David, when he changed his behaviour before Abimelech; who drove him away, and he departed.
1 I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth. 2 My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: The humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. 3 O magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt his name together. 4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me, And delivered me from all my fears. 5 They looked unto him, and were lightened: And their faces were not ashamed. 6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, And saved him out of all his troubles. 7 The angel of the Lord encampeth Round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. 8 O taste and see that the Lord is good: Blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
What was going on King David what do you think was Going on in his life?
Perhaps when he was an unknown shepherd boy the got anointed and prophesied to by Samuel to be the next king
Perhaps during the time He conquered the Great Giant Goliath while he just a teenager
Perhaps he was gained favor with King Saul and made the leader of Army and married the king’s daughter
Perhaps when during the time when the women sung praises about him slew 10,000 and Saul only slew 1,000 ( it became a number one best seller)
Perhaps when finally became King of Judah and Israel.
Many including myself David would have though David wrote those powerful WORD during a time of GREAT VICTORY in His life.
Many praise God during the good times and major accomplishments and blame God and neglect during difficulties in life.
This Psalm was written by Davis during one of the most horrific times in life...
Background:
In 1 Samuel chapter 20, 21 and 22 gives the background of what lead Davis to write Psalm 34
King Saul was jealous when heard the women honoring David accomplish more than the honor
King Saul sought to Kill David.
In fear David run away to protect him King Saul with no food or weapons
In fear, David went Nob to were he deceived the priest for food and a weapon (the sword of Goliath)
In fear, David went to Gath ( the land of Philistine, where Goliath lived.
David was captured and in fear of Achish, the King of Gath, David pretended to be insane allowed saliva drooled over his beard scream and scratch the doors of the gate. The King ordered David to thrown out like dog
14 Then said Achish unto his servants, Lo, ye see the man is mad: wherefore then have ye brought him to me? 15 Have I need of mad men, that ye have brought this fellow to play the mad man in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house?
After David was thrown out he went to went to Cave of Adullam and 400 distressed, in debt, and discontented follow and David became there captain. 1 Sam 22: 1-2
1 David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father’s house heard it, they went down thither to him. 2 And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.
This is where he wrote Psalm chapter 34 was written; David wrote in as an acrostic. The first letter of the Hebrew language starts almost each verse.
David could have started mob of angry men that could have done much destruction. They had nothing to lose!
But he encourage the men by sharing this psam with them. Th help overcome distress, debt, discontent, and fear
Blessed the LORD (barak) bow down, kneel (from the knee)/ do not grieve the LORD
At all times ( without interuptions)
