Spiritual Discipline: practice or activity aimed at fostering spiritual growth and deepening one’s relationship with God. Examples of spiritual disciplines include prayer, fasting, Bible study, worship, solitude, acts of service, and various forms of self-reflection and self-examination.
Hook: 10,000 hour rule. As a generic example.
Training vs. Trying
Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.
What’s something you’ve trained in and experienced growth?
A sport, a skill, etc…
The things you’ve put deliberate practice in you’ve grown in.
The same is true spiritually.
How is it in every value—when you’re right with God, he’ll get you right with everything.
What’s it like when you try something new?

2. Grow Closer to Jesus
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
This is what we are building. We are practicing the discipline of abiding and God is going to yield fruit from our life because of it.
Consistency over Intensity!
There is something inspiring about practice and discipline.

Build up your daily ability to abide, and then you’ll know what to do when the bigger moments come up.
How does it impact everyday life?
Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
There is a temporary and eternal benefit.
You’re going to be aligned more with His will than ever before.
