Introduction
One very popular saying is sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.
I am sure there has been words that someone has said about you either good or bad that stuck with you.

Words Created The World

We see in Genesis that words created the world. We are made in God’s image so our words can be very powerful as well

Words Have The Power to Bring Death

Proverbs 18:21 NIV
21 The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 15:4 NIV
4 The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.
So we see here that words have power to bring death. The way that we talk about others and ourselves is extremely important.
When you talk to your parents and to your siblings it is important that we watch what we say because we can destroy others that we care for.

18 The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Words also have the power to bring life to us and and others.

Showing others the love of Christ

We Will Have to Account for Our Words

Matthew 12:36–37 NIV
36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Why do you think words are so powerful?
What is an example of a time in your life when someone’s words encouraged you? What about a time when someone’s words hurt you?
How can our words bring death to others around us?
