FAMILY BROKENNESS
Intro- all affected or no someone affected by Family brokenness!
TWO PATHS
Genesis 4:12 “12 “When you cultivate the ground, it will no longer yield its strength to you; you will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth.””
- someone who lives by begging, wanderer…. unsettled, unstable, to and from, here and there
God desires through HIS Mercy and Grace to Redeem our stories through Jesus Christ!
Matthew 7:13–14 “13 “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 “For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.”
Cain v Abel
Cain v Seth
Cain- Jealousy and Anger
Be Angry and Do not sin——- says God
Jealousy & Anger- MURDER
-Murder = Anger Matthew 5:21–24 “21 “You have heard that the ancients were told, ‘You shall not commit murder’ and ‘Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.’ 22 “But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell. 23 “Therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering.”
Ephesians 4:26 “26 Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,”
MURDER- to punishment to mark (God’s Mercy)
-Mercy describes a divine attribute of God’s nature—He is “rich in mercy” (Ephesians 2:4), and His “mercy is great” (2 Samuel 24:14; see also Daniel 9:9). Mercy is revealed in the actions God takes to relieve suffering and demonstrate His faithfulness and steadfast love.
Genesis 4:16 “16 Then Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.” (Nod= wandering)
PROGRESSION OF SIN/AFFECTS ON A PEOPLE/TOWN/GROUP
Cain to Lamech (a culture and society outside of the presence of God)
Lamech to polygamy to boastful murder to playing god
1. a. kill, slay, implying ruthless violence, especially private violence
TWO FAMILIES
Abel- faith (opposite of faith is Cain- self-sufficiency, disobedience)
Seth- seed/offspring, God redeeming
Seth to Enosh - calling upon the name of the Lord!
Seth to NOAH
Jude 11 “11 Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain, and for pay they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.”
Hebrews 11:4 “4 By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained the testimony that he was righteous, God testifying about his gifts, and through faith, though he is dead, he still speaks.”
Proverbs 3:5–6 “5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.”
Psalm 119:11 “11 Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You.”
Psalm 119:105 “105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.”
What path are you on? What path do you choose?
