Proverbs 4:20–27 ESV
My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you. Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.
My one theme:
Gaurd your hearts, and you will find life
Introduction:
There’s this story I’ve heard about a Shepherd boy. This Shepherd boy want’s to get water from a stream for his sheep. The water he is drawing from is dirty, it’s filled with all sorts of dirt, bacteria. So his sheep don’t get sick this shepherd boy tries to funnel the water through a filtering system. A wise man comes to him and says to him there’s an easier way to do that. So the wise man takes him up the mountain to this pond. He tells him, do you know that this pond is where the water your’e collecting is from? If you just put a fence around the water up here, the water down the stream will be good. You won’t need to filter the water. So let’s build a fence for this water. No animal will be able to enter it, or bathe in it, or go to the bathroom in it. If we protect the source, the output will be fine.
This is what we’ll be talking about this morning. Gaurding our hearts. As we continue this Summer series we’re in the book of Proverbs. Proverbs 4: 20- 27
