Why Can We Trust the Bible?

Episode 1 of the "Trusting the Bible" Series

Hook: The Emotional Story

There’s a moment in life when you realize you’ve been standing on solid ground all along—even when you doubted it. Imagine hiking in thick fog, barely able to see the path in front of you. You take each step cautiously, worried you might slip. But then, as the fog lifts, you see you’ve been walking on firm, steady ground the whole time.
For many, faith can feel like that. The Bible can feel like that. Can we really trust it? Is it reliable? Or are we just blindly walking, hoping we don’t fall?
I’ve wrestled with those questions myself. Maybe you have too. Maybe you’ve heard people say:
"The Bible is just an ancient book—how can it be relevant today?"
"Hasn’t it been changed over time?"
"Can we really trust it’s the Word of God?"
These are big questions, but what if I told you that the Bible isn’t just some old book—it’s the most tested, scrutinized, and reliable text in all of human history? And more than that, it’s God’s Word to us.
The same God who spoke creation into existence, the same God who parted the seas, the same God who sent Jesus to rescue us—He’s the One who gave us this book.
And He invites us to trust it.

ME: My Personal Struggle

I didn’t always believe the Bible was trustworthy. In fact, before I got saved in 2015, I thought Christianity was for people who didn’t want it enough for themselves—like God was a crutch. I saw faith as an excuse for weakness, a way for people to cope with life instead of facing it head-on. I lived by my own rules, relying on my own strength. But that strength led me down a dark path—one of addiction to alcohol and drugs.
I thought I was in control, but the truth was, I was a prisoner. And when I finally hit rock bottom, I didn’t find answers in my own willpower—I found them in a book I had once ignored. The Bible, which had seemed like nothing more than ancient words, became alive. It spoke directly to me. It wasn’t just a book—it was truth, and it was God speaking into my brokenness. That’s when everything changed.
Maybe you’ve felt this too. Maybe the Bible seems confusing, irrelevant, or even unreliable. Maybe you’ve wondered if you can really trust it. If so, you’re not alone.

WE: Our Shared Struggle

We live in a world that tells us truth is whatever you make it.
“Believe what works for you.”
“Truth is relative.”
“The Bible is just an old book written by men.”
It’s easy to get caught in the doubt, the skepticism, the questions. And let’s be honest—if we’re going to build our lives on something, we want to be sure it can hold us.
But here’s the thing—truth isn’t a feeling. It’s not based on opinions or emotions. Truth is solid. Truth is unchanging. Truth is something we can stand on.
And God has given us His truth in His Word.

GOD: What the Bible Says

So why can we trust the Bible? Let’s look at a few key reasons:

1. The Bible is Historically Reliable (Archaeology and Manuscripts)

Some claim the Bible has been changed over time, but history tells a different story.
The Dead Sea Scrolls, discovered in 1947, contained copies of the Old Testament from over 2,000 years ago. When compared to modern translations, they were nearly identical—proving that Scripture has been preserved.
Archaeological discoveries consistently confirm biblical events, places, and people, from King David’s reign to the walls of Jericho.
The Bible is the most well-documented ancient text in history. We have over 25,000 manuscripts of the New Testament, far more than any other historical document. Compared to books like Plato’s Republic (which has only 7 manuscripts), the Bible stands unmatched in preservation and accuracy.
2 Timothy 3:16 tells us, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness.” That means the words in this book weren’t just written by men—they were inspired by God Himself.
If the Bible were a made-up story, history would have disproven it long ago. But instead, time and research continue to affirm its accuracy.
“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”Isaiah 40:8
Voddie Baucham’s well-known apologetic statement:
“I choose to believe the Bible because it’s a reliable collection of historical documents written by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They report supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.”

2. The Bible is Prophetically Accurate (Fulfilled Prophecy)

One of the greatest evidences of the Bible’s trustworthiness is prophecy.
The Old Testament contains over 300 prophecies about Jesus—His birth, His life, His death—written hundreds of years before He was born.
Isaiah 53 describes Jesus’ suffering in detail—700 years before it happened.
Mathematicians estimate that the odds of one person fulfilling just eight of these prophecies is 1 in 100 quadrillion.
These prophecies weren’t lucky guesses. They were divine revelations.
God’s Word has proven itself true—not just in the past, but in our lives today.

3. The Bible is Spiritually Transformative (Changed Lives)

Beyond history and prophecy, the Bible’s greatest proof is what happens when people live by it.
It brings freedom to those trapped in sin.
It brings peace to the anxious and hurting.
It brings purpose to those searching for meaning.
The same Bible that transformed lives 2,000 years ago is still changing lives today.
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword.”Hebrews 4:12
The Bible isn’t just a book. It’s the voice of God speaking to us. And when we trust it, we step into the life God created us for.

YOU: What Should You Do About This?

If we know the Bible is trustworthy, the next question is: What will we do with it?
Here are three ways to build your life on God’s Word:

1. Read It Daily (Practice: 10-Minute Scripture Habit)

We can’t trust something we don’t know. Start with 10 minutes a day—whether it’s a Psalm, a Gospel, or a Proverb. Let God’s Word shape your thinking.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”Psalm 119:105

2. Test It in Your Life (Practice: Applying Scripture to Your Struggles)

God’s Word isn’t just meant to be read—it’s meant to be lived. Take one verse this week and apply it to something you’re facing. See how God’s truth holds up in real life.
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”James 1:22

3. Share It Boldly (Practice: Encouraging Others with Scripture)

If the Bible is life-changing, why keep it to ourselves? This week, share a verse with someone who needs encouragement. You never know how God might use it.
“Go and make disciples of all nations.”Matthew 28:19

Closing Vision: A Better Future

Right now, we’re living in a time when people are desperate for truth. The world offers shifting opinions, fleeting trends, and empty promises—but none of it satisfies. People are searching, whether they realize it or not. They’re looking for something real, something steady, something they can build their lives on.
And that’s exactly what God has given us in His Word.
The Bible isn’t just a book we read—it’s a foundation we build on. It’s the difference between standing firm in the storm or being swept away by the waves. It’s the light that cuts through the darkness, the anchor that holds us steady, the voice of God speaking into our lives.
Think about what would happen if we truly believed that.
What if we didn’t just say the Bible is trustworthy, but lived like it? What if we let it shape our decisions, our relationships, our purpose? What if we carried this confidence—not just for ourselves, but for the people around us who are drowning in uncertainty?
A life built on God’s Word is a life that stands strong, no matter what comes.
When culture shifts, you won’t be shaken.
When trials come, you’ll have peace.
When doubt creeps in, you’ll have answers.
And more than that, you’ll have a deeper connection with the God who spoke these words into existence. A faith that’s not built on emotions or circumstances, but on the rock-solid truth of Scripture.
So today, choose to stand on that foundation. Choose to open the Word. Choose to trust it.
Because the Bible isn’t just trustworthy—it’s life-giving. And when you build your life on it, you’ll find that no matter what happens, you’re standing on something unshakable.
