Finding Grace in Brokenness

Bible Passage: Hosea 2:23, Hosea 3:1, 1 Peter 2:9-10

Over the last several weeks and months, our chapel theme has been “Portraits of Grace”. It has been our purpose to see various people in the Scriptures where God has shown immense grace too. Today is no different. We are going to take a short glance at the story of the Prophet Hosea, and his wife Gomer. If you would turn with me to the book of Hosea.
It is in the OT. If you find the book of Ezekiel, it is two books to the right. After Ezekiel is Daniel, and then Hosea. While you’re turning to Hosea, let me pray for our time together. (Read Hosea 1:1-10).
What we see here is that God used the marriage of the prophet Hosea to his wife Gomer as a picture of the relationship between Himself and the people of Israel. The People had been unfaithful to him again and again. In fact, the entire book of Judges shows this fact.
Because of this, the beginning of chapter 2 expresses the judgment of God on Israel for all of her wickedness.

1. Grace Promised

Hosea 2:23
Even in the midst of their rebellion and harlotry, God promises to pursue them and restore them to Himself. There is coming a day, when every living Jewish Person will trust in Jesus for the forgiveness of their sin, and Jesus will reign as their King.
How does God implement this promised grace? He pursues! God pursues sinners. (Jesus with the tax collectors and sinners—Luke 15).

2. Grace Pursues

Hosea 3:1
God's command to Hosea to love his unfaithful wife is a radical depiction of unconditional grace. Gomer did nothing to deserve the loving pursuit of Hosea. This reflects God's relentless love, mirrored in Christ’s sacrificial love for His bride. It teaches that just as Hosea’s love pursues the unfaithful, so does Christ's love pursue us. Luke 19:10 ““For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.”” John 6:38-40, 44.
Romans 5:6, 8, 10.

3. Grace Redefines

1 Peter 2:9-10
The Grace of God doesn’t leave you as a prostitute. The Grace of God doesn’t leave you as His enemy, sinner, or weak. When the grace of God takes hold, it radically transforms you into a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:16-19).
