Matthew 25:1-12
The purpose of this parable is to instill the urgency of being ready for the Lord’s return.
They are always ready who are always doing His will Matt 24:46
They appear ready but are found to be unprepared
1. They have Blameless Character – Virgins - without reproach, blameless in the eyes of man
2. Noble Intentions – went to meet the Bridegroom v1 they wish to be part of the feast, good intentions but blind to real need
3. Thoughtless Neglect – took no oil with them v3 all their hope was in the lamp of profession – oil in the jar – Spirit of God in the heart – the true witness of Children of God
4. Helpless Indifference – became drowsy and fell asleep – waiting is the true test – opportunity to still buy oil
5. Anxious Request – give us oil v8 the “oil” of knowing God cannot be shared, we must each have our own personal belief in Jesus. Buy from the one who sells Rev 3:18
6. Earnest Endeavor – They went to buy v10 but when Christ comes, hoping to be ready will not be enough “Now is the accepted time” 2 Cor 6:2 Be ready Matt 24:44
7. Fearful Disappointment – the door was shut v11 Their name or title did not save them, only those who met the Bridegroom entered with Him Job 22:21 Romans 8:9
