Introduction: Because the Lord was with His people, they could be confident in what God gave them to do, even crossing the Jordan River.
Confidence of one woman and the unusual military strategy of the Israelites.
Content and Explanation: Joshua 2:8–13
The Canaanites, to whom Rahab belonged, were sinners who did terrible things like killing children - all sin deserves punishment.
Rahab trusted the Lord based on what she heard God do for the Israelites (Egypt, conquering pagan kings) and she hid the spies though it was not safe - God empowers us through His Holy Spirit to do uncomfortable things like tell others kids to stop making fun of another.
Friends, Rahab had asked the spies to spare her family’s and her life; let’s see what happens when the Israelites march on Jericho.
Joshua 6:12–13, 20
God leads His people to take an unusual military action (6 days’ march, Ark of the Covenant in the middle, blowing horns; 7 times march on 7th day) against a strongly walled city that prompts them to rely on His Word for victory - we too must rely on God’s Word to speak kind words when others want to speak unkind words to us, Pr 15:1.
Joshua 6:25 - Rahab and her family were saved because they trusted the Lord; you too can be saved by believing on Jesus to save you from your sins and just as Rahab and Joshua and the Israelites lived faithful lives so all who believe on Jesus to save them have the Holy Spirit Who empowers faithful words when tempted to be unkind, seeking forgiveness when we’ve been unkind, and telling others to stop being unkind.
Friends, let’s look at our memory verse that reminds us to confidently trust how the Lord is at work in us.
Scripture Memory - Proverbs 3:6
All your ways - palms up, hands extended out and bring arms to sides wide
Acknowledge - point up with both index fingers
Straight - “pray hands” over head and then bring to waist and extend arms out with “pray hands” still together.
Repetition - Proverbs 3:6
