Opening Words

Paul, in a letter to his protege Timothy, lists the qualities of those called to the office of deacon, and then shares these words of encouragement...

1 Timothy 3:13- 13 For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

What a great encouragement! Faithful deacons are both blessed by God and a blessing to the faith.
Transition: At this time I would like to lead us in a prayer for our deacons.

Prayer for Deacons

Heavenly Father, thank you for calling Godly men to serve our churches as deacons. As a pastor, I’ve been blessed by the friendship and ministry of so many faithful deacons and I, like others here, are so grateful for their love and encouraging support.
Lord, we know that our ministry is a reflection of our own spiritual walk and so I ask that our deacons would passionately love You and be devoted to Your Word, that they may have a thriving spiritual life, be filled with joy, and walk with integrity and with compassion for others.
Please bless and provide for their families and help them as they seek lead their families to honor You.
I pray for their ministry as deacons.
Equip these men with strength, wisdom, discernment, and humility as they serve the needs of Your church. Bless their ministry among Your people.
I pray that they would set examples as prayer warriors, bold witnesses of the Gospel, and peacemakers who foster unity within the Body, and enthusiastic encouragers of those called to be their church’s pastor.
Lord, where there has been hurt and conflict among the church body, among the deacon body, and between pastor and deacon, I ask You for healing and reconciliation. That Your local church might be know among the community for it’s love for one another and more clearly reflect God’s love for the community.
Finally, Lord, I ask you to raise up the next generation of Godly deacons. That the church might recognize your calling in their lives. That experienced deacons might embrace and mentor these young men in service.
Father, thank you for the hope and redemption we have in Christ and the great privilege we have of serving You and Your church together.
In Christ’s name we pray, amen.
