HOOK
HOOK
A little girl once agreed to walk blindfolded across a playground holding her father’s hand—every step felt uncertain and terrifying, but she pressed on because she trusted his voice above all else.
When she stumbled, his steady words guided her back to safety and hope. Today, Deuteronomy 6 invites us to that same fearless trust in God’s voice as our compass through life’s chaos.

1. Previous Study’s Review
You know, we finished going through the 10 commandments one commandment at a time.
And we started of with the Foundation of the Ten Commandments by looking at Deuteronomy 5:6, where God reminded Israel who He is and what He has done before giving them any commands:
"I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery."
We established that God's commandments are not just rules but a relational covenant, calling His people to obedience rooted in gratitude rather than duty.
The heart of the commandments is not legalism but a response to His rescue. True obedience flows from understanding His love.

That brings us to chapter 6. Read…
The Title of Today’s Message is: Wholehearted Worship
Because in a world filled with competing voices and constant distraction, Deuteronomy 6 calls us back to one simple question: Who will rule your heart?
Moses reminds Israel—and us—that true life begins when God’s Word isn’t just heard, but treasured, obeyed, and passed on.
Today we’ll see how this ancient covenant invitation still shapes every decision, relationship, and moment of our lives.
1. Teaching the Lord Vs. 1a
1. Teaching the Lord Vs. 1a
The commandments, statues & judgments are different… but they can carry a similar idea…
They point to & speak of everything that God has said… we would say, all of the Word of God…
So Moses is saying to Teach all the Word of God… don’t leave any part out…
APPLICATION: Good advise for us: to teach the all of the Word of God… not bits & pieces… a little here & little there…
But teach the Whole Counsel of God… like Paul did when speaking to the Ephesians elders in Miletus he said…
27 For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God.
That is why we systematically go through the whole Bible… not jumping around or skipping books…
2. Observing the Lord Vs. 1b-2
2. Observing the Lord Vs. 1b-2
Observe: to perform… to execute… to do… it speaks of Doing the Word of the Lord…
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
But people say: doing the Word of the Lord is so hard… so tough… so difficult…
Yes! If we’re trying to do it in our strength its not hard or tough… its impossible… we can’t do it…
But when we rely upon God’s Spirit to empower us & to enable us… then & only then can we do the Word
6 So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts.
3. Hearing the Lord Vs. 3-4
3. Hearing the Lord Vs. 3-4
Notice, twice Moses says to hear… why is hearing the Word of God so important….
17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
This is where we come in: As believers we’re the ones that the Lord will use to share His Word…
2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.
8 Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor.
Its part of that great commission in…
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
4. Loving the Lord Vs. 5-9
4. Loving the Lord Vs. 5-9
vs.4-5 are called the Shema, in the Mezuzah…
4.1 Vs. 5-6
4.1 Vs. 5-6
In Matt.22:36 a lawyer came & asked Jesus, which is the great commandment in the law… Jesus quotes this verse…
Then Jesus said the 2nd is like it quoting from…
18 You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.
Lev.19:18 you shall love your neighbor as yourself… and then Jesus says…
40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
That’s why Jesus said in…
17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
Jesus is the fulfillment of the law because Jesus is Love
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
APPLICATION: And here’s the point, if we truly love the Lord His Word will be in our heart… & our lives will reflect it & revolve around it. Look at Vs. 7…
In other words our whole life should revolve around the Word of the Lord… the main emphases of our life involves & revolves around Jesus…
And we are the ones who are to be diligently teaching it to our children… not the church, the school…
4.2 Vs. 8-9
4.2 Vs. 8-9
The Jews took this literally & made little leather boxes to tie to their left arm & their foreheads that held scriptures from the Torah… Phylacteries, in…
5 But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments.
They use them today at prayer times…
APPLICATION: Point: everything we do with our hands… & everything we see with our eyes…
everything we think with our brains… should revolve around the Lord…
So, Jesus should be at the forefront of our lives… everything we see, say & do are done in light of Jesus
5. Forgetting the Lord Vs. 10-12
5. Forgetting the Lord Vs. 10-12
Prosperity can breed Complacency… when the Lord begins to bless us… & provide for us…
its easy to focus on the blessings… rather then the God who does the blessing.
We forget all about the Lord… & the fact that everything we have came from the Lord…
7 For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?
6. Fearing the Lord Vs. 13-15
6. Fearing the Lord Vs. 13-15
APPLICATION: The Point is simple: if we don’t have a reverential fear of the Lord its easy to fall into idolatry…
We need to understand that the Lord is always with us…
Matthew 28:20 “20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”
Hebrews 13:5 “5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.””
The reason is because He is a jealous God… He’s jealous for us… He loves us so much He doesn’t want to go after other gods… which are not gods at all…
7. Tempting the Lord Vs. 16-19
7. Tempting the Lord Vs. 16-19
They tempted or tested the Lord in Ex.17: at Massah or Rephidem…
Because at Massah there was no water… Yet it was the Lord who led them there…
So the Lord was testing them… to see what they would do….
They failed the test… because they didn’t trust the Lord… they complained to Moses…
Now, God doesn’t tempt us… but He does test us…
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.
But when we put the Lord to the test… in effect we’re saying Lord I don’t trust You…
Which is a Lack of Faith…
8. Faithfulness of the Lord Vs. 20-25
8. Faithfulness of the Lord Vs. 20-25
So Moses encourages them to remember the Faithfulness of the Lord…
Guys no matter what happens when you enter the promised land, remember the Faithfulness of the Lord.
How He bought you out of Egypt… across the desert… into the Promised Land…
APPLICATION: Good word for us, I venture to say all of us can look back in our lives and see the Faithfulness of the Lord…
How in the past He has delivered us… blessed us… provided for us…
He has always been faithful… & He will continue to be faithful…
And there is something else we need to remember about God’s Faithfulness…
13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.
Listen, He is faithful in spite of us… not because of us…
ENDING…
