Jesus Calms the Fearful • He directs them into the storm. • When afraid, the disciples accuse Jesus. • Jesus stops the storm with a word. • Jesus identifies the source of their fear. • They are filled with new, holy fear at God Himself. Jesus Calms the Broken A desperate case (1–5) • A Gentile man living amongst the dead. • Unbindable, untamable, unsaveable. • Alone, tormented, and self-harming. Jesus Calms the Broken A dramatic salvation (6–15) • “Do not torment me!” (7) • “Send us into the pigs” (12) • From broken to whole (15) Jesus Calms the Broken A dual response (16–20) • Crowd: “fear”, so they “begged him to depart” • Man: calmed, so he “begged him…to be with him” Applications • Judge not the Lord by feeble sense. • Jesus is a gentle Savior that should be feared. • Jesus forces you to respond to Him. • Delivered saints tell others.
