O magnify the Lord with me,
And let us exalt his name together.
Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause:
Yea, let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified,
Which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.
Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee:
Let such as love thy salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified.
Title: Principle of Magnification
Magnify
to increase the apparent size of, as a lens does.
to make greater in actual size; enlarge:
to cause to seem greater or more important; attribute too much importance to; exaggerate:
to make more exciting; intensify; dramatize; heighten:
Archaic. to extol; praise:
So if I magnify something, I am enlarging it, making it bigger than it actually is.
How big is God?
God is beyond the universe –
But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?
This suggests that God is greater than the entire universe.
God fills all things –
Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord.
This implies that God is everywhere at once and not confined to physical dimensions.
God is infinite –
Great is our Lord, and of great power:
His understanding is infinite.
God has no limits, whether in power, knowledge, or presence.
He is so big yet lives in the hearts of men! –
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
How can this be?
How can you take something that is so big and make it bigger!
How do you magnify God?
You put the magnifier of Praise and worship TOGETHER!
O magnify the Lord with me,
And let us exalt his name together.
2. You put the magnifier of Spirit of thanksgiving
I will praise the name of God with a song,
And will magnify him with thanksgiving.
3. You put the magnifier of Obedience and righteous living
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
4. You put the magnifier of Preaching the gospel
Declare his glory among the heathen;
His marvellous works among all nations.
5. You put the magnifier of Faith and trust in God
And Mary said,
My soul doth magnify the Lord,
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
One of the biblical definitions: to grow up - with each day God becomes bigger in your life!
Each day God becomes bigger in my thinking.
This is why people stop growing in their relationship with God…
They stop magnifying him!
6.You put the magnifier of loving and serve each other!
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
The only way to make God bigger is to magnify him!
WE MUST MAGNIFY GOD!
Look at what happens when God is glorified…
And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.
Moses and God were talking life friends…
When they were done, Joshua stayed in God’s presence.
Joshua is called the servant and minister of Moses.
The servant chose to magnify God.
The servant became to leader…
And the Lord said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.
On that day the Lord magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.
As Joshua magnifies God, God magnifies Joshua!
A Growing respect for God resulted in those around Joshua respecting him more and more!
Joshua 1, 3, 4, 11, 24 the people honored Joshua and recognized who he was in God!
BUT, in Joshua 2, 5, 10, 15 - Israel’s enemies began to fear them!
Rahab told the spies…
And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
When you magnify God, God will magnify you!
Your family and peers will recognize God’s favor and respond to you in kind.
Your friends and coworkers begin to respect or fear what is different about you!
Conclusion:
All this talk about worship over these past weeks is not coincidental.
We win if and when we magnify God!
Why is it so hard to worship?
There are two primary spirits we are dealing with.
Apathy - gets us so busy that we cannot even engage in service.
Focused on living while the world goes to hell and we are oblivious.
Intimidation - Keeps you from responding.
You are you to worship? After the way you’ve been acting? Just sit through another bible study and go home…
The only way to win is make God bigger than what we are fighting!
We have to do what is right!
Praise and worship
Thanksgiving
Obedience and righteous living
Witnessing
Faith and trust
Love and serve each other
While I am gone - this is what we do.
This is our balance, intention and what we do together!
