48:19 But his father refused and said, “I know, my son, I know. He too will become a people, and he too will become great. Nevertheless, his younger brother will become greater than he and his descendants will become a group of nations.”
Old Jacob blesses the children of Joseph somehow knowing their future and telling them who will be the greatest. These boys had no say in the matter. God had a plan for their lives and while they would make individual choices, they would live out that plan. I wonder how much their choices depended on the memory of this blessing.
One of the disciplines in my Bible says we bless others because we have been blessed (48:3,4) and that those blessings are formative for us when we recall them often, think about them, and let “grace enlarge our hearts.”
Grace is a revelation of God that changes me. The first one was when He revealed Jesus as God to me. At that moment, I was captured, changed, reborn and never to be the same. I went from a lost child to a child of God. There were other times of blessing but today, I will ponder the marvel of this one!
