One Life- Week 1- "Why One Matters"
Introduction:
Open with a personal story or relatable illustration about something valuable lost and found.
Pose the question: "Have you ever realized just how much one person matters to God?"
"Consider how precious a soul must be, when both God and the devil are after it."Charles Spurgeon
Main Idea: Every individual matters immensely to God. Each life is precious and worth pursuing.
Deacons have the $50 contest because they see the immeasurable worth of the next generation knowing God.
Point 1: God's Heart for the One
Scripture: Luke 15:8-10 (The Parable of the Lost Coin)
“Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it? And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.’  Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”- Luke 15:8-10
Emphasize God's diligent and intentional search for each lost individual.
Highlight: "God notices and rejoices greatly when even one is found."
"There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal."C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory
Point 2: Jesus' Mission is Personal
Scripture: Luke 19:10 (Jesus came to seek and save the lost)
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.- Luke 19:10
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”- Matthew 28:19-20
Discuss how Jesus' purpose on earth revolved around reaching individuals personally.
"Jesus Christ knows the worst about you. Nonetheless, He is the one who loves you most."A.W. Tozer
Application Question: "Who is one person in your life Jesus wants to reach through you?"
Point 3: God's Patience for the One
Scripture: 2 Peter 3:9 (God is patient, desiring all to repent)
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.- 2 Peter 3:9
Explain God's heart of patience, not wanting anyone to be lost.
Encouragement: God hasn't given up on anyone—neither should we.
"Right now counts forever."R.C. Sproul
Practical Application:
Challenge students to identify and write down the name of one person they'll commit to praying for and intentionally engaging spiritually.
Provide a tangible tool (e.g., a bookmark, wristband, or card) for reminders.
Conclusion:
Reinforce the main idea: "You matter to God, and so does your one friend."
Close with prayer, specifically praying over the names students have identified, asking God for boldness and opportunities.
