Why? We all want to be fruitful
What do I believe God wants us to do? Abide in Him
Why? It brings frutifulness
ME/WE
One of the desires, that God has given to us, is we all have in this life is to be fruitful. We want flourishing in all areas of our life.
In our relationships with each other and God, at work (I jsut want to be broke and out of a job), in school, in the land God has called us to inherit, for it to continually be fruitful it is going to take CULTIVATION, COMMITMENT, and CONNECTION…God gives it to us but FRUIT doesn’t continue by itself.
- Nobody says, “I hope my life amounts to nothing”? Of course not! Deep within each of us, there is a God-given desire to be fruitful—to live a life that has meaning, impact, and purpose. No one wants to be barren, empty, or fruitless.
We long to see the work of our hands prosper, our relationships thrive, and our faith grow deeper.
Good news! God wants you to be fruitful…
He wants us to be fruitful in labor/work, relationships
And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Character
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
4. Generousity
Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.
But here is the question
How do we be fruitful in our WORK (including fo the Lord), relatoinships, character?
How does FRUITFULNESS HAPPEN?
The GOOD NEWS IS GOD DOESN’T SAY FIGURE IT OUT…TELLS US HOW
HOW CAN WE BE FRUITFUL?
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.
Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.
If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.
As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.
If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.
These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command you.
No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
These things I command you, so that you will love one another.
What more was there to do for my vineyard, that I have not done in it? When I looked for it to yield grapes, why did it yield wild grapes?
JESUS is the VINE…which was to the religious leaders of the day scandalous because ISRAEL and the Messiah was to be the VINE…but how God of a vine were they???
What is one of the words that is used over and over
ABIDE
What does it mean to ABIDE? It means to be connected to Him, remain in JESUS, to be faithful to Jesus, to give your allegence too…pistis
WHAT DOES JESUS SAY FOR US TO BE FRUITFUL WHAT DOES IT SAY WE NEED TO DO?
ABIDE in JESUS
ABDIDE in JESUS…that we are the branches
If you ABIDE you will be fruitful
How do we do that?
A couple of ways.
BASICS
To be connected to Jesus we need to remember:
Our relationship with God is a relationship.
Our relationship with God is a relationship.
Not distant God
What is the type of relationship Jesus has with you?
FRIENDS, GOD IS WANTS A RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU, HE IS YOUR FRIEND
And He is our friend
I love what John 15:15
No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.
YOU ARE A FRIEND OF GOD
HOW DO PRACTICALLY I CONNECT, AND GROW IN FRIENDSHIP WITH GOD WITH ABIDE and BE CONNECTED TO GOD?
HOW DOES ANY RELATIONSHIP GROW?
2. Through the thing any relationship needs to GROW…COMMUNICATION and CONNECTION
HOW DO COMMUNICATE with God? PRAYER
God, your friend wants to communicate with you
HOW OFTEN DOES GOD WANT US TO COMMUNICATE WITH HIM?
pray without ceasing,
God wants to connect with us all the time.
How do we do this?
I was encouraged and received great revelation from John Eldridge about how God wants to connect with us.
Think about your relationship with a spouse or good friend or child.
How often do you connect with them?
If it is your spouse. All day long… sometimes it is short, sometimes medium and sometimes you have a long conversation with them.
Similar with God
It does not always have to be this long conversations.
Two way conversation.
GIVE ROOM FOR GOD TO SPEAK
Here him say you are my beloved child, cherished, strong
Go appologize, forgive them, rejoice, laugh
Listen and follow what He says
3. ABIDE by being people of His WORD
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,
and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Be people of the WORD
This is were we come to know the love of
The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness,
keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.”
LOVE OF GOD
WAYS OF GOD
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
This is the way to lead to life
LOVE, FORGIVE, DO NOT LIE, GOSSIP, LUST
Question is it enough to know the WORD of God, His love and His ways? Would we say that is ABIDING?
Would we say my sons are abiding in my words when I say don’t hit or make fun of each other and they know it mentially but they don’t live it in action
OR if you get pulled over for going 20 MPH over the speed limit, you are not ABIDING by the LAW by just knowing it.
How do we ABIDE IN GOD’S WORD?
NOT JUST KNOWING IT BUT BY LIVING IT
If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.
They lead to life
ABIDE BY BEING IN RELATOINSHIP, IN HIS WORD, FOLLOW THE WORD, PRAYER
4. We are going to Need the church, each other
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,
not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
What does Jesus do to those who ABIDE?
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
HE MAKES THEM FRUITFUL
It is a promise
HOW?
By ABIDING IN HIM HE IS THE SOURCE OF LIFE
How does my house turn on, it is connected to the power
He is the source of our strength, wisdom, purpose, and transformation.
HE GIVES YOU THE FRUIT POWER AND MAKES YOU MORE FRUITFUL
And what He wants form you is more fruit and do you know what He does?
Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
Prunes you 85% gets pruned
What does he prune us from
Bad things such as
Sinful habits of lust, ungodly anger, gossip, lies
Fear and doubt
Unforgiveness
Good things
Overcommitment
Relationships
Our goals
LIFTS UP…not takes away
just like a real vineyard
If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.
How can you abide in God this week?
Prayer, Word, Relationship,
CHOSE YOU
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
