Context:
John the Baptist did not recognize Jesus. He sent his disciples to ask Jesus if He was the Messiah (Matthew 11:1-6)
Jesus says that He has been showing the people the Messiah and they have not responded by repentance and by coming to Jesus Matthew 11:7-24)
Jesus says that the revelation of the Father and of the Son is hidden from those who believe that they are wise and learned. But rather, who God is and what He is doing is being shown to little children…the unwise, unlearned, the simple (Matthew 11:25-27)
An invitation to all-consuming and life-giving intimacy with God
The Father tells us to seek His face (Psalm 27:8)
The Holy Spirit invites us to come into the fullness of God’s presence (Revelation 22:17)
The Son invites us to journey with Him into the full consuming knowledge of the Father (Matthew 11:28) because in His hands is the full revelation of the Father (Matthew 11:25-27)
How are we to respond to this invitation?
Engaging our will:
I am convinced that the love of the Father and being in His presence and seeing His face is the greatest thing you could ever experience. (Psalm 27:4)
I am convinced that Jesus alone is the path to the Father and that Jesus will actually fulfill the invitation of the Father
I am convinced that being completely led by the authoritative leadership of Jesus is the most gracious and humble act we could ever experience. (Matthew 11:28)
Giving Jesus our honest and full, “Yes!”
Yes! I will seek Your face!
Yes! I will take Your yoke
Yes! I will submit to the journey You will take me on into intimacy with the Father.
The Yoke of Jesus:
Learn from Jesus and you will learn to know intimacy with the Father and you will see Him
But you must give Jesus the absolute authority to journey with you and to lead you.
He pulls and you walk beside him.
He directs
He teaches how to seek
He teaches to to receive
He teaches how to respond
He teaches how to walk
He teaches how to live
Training our souls:
Begin each day by giving Jesus your “Yes!” and by taking His yoke.
End each day by asking Jesus to speak to you about how you walked in that “Yes!” and how you walked under His yoke.
Share what Jesus said with a loved one/friend and pray together
