10. It is an honor and privilege to be here with you this morning and I do not take it lightly.
11. You could have chosen from a number of great Ministers to deliver your message for Annual Men’s Day Program, and I am completely humbled that you selected me for a time such as this.
12. Read 1 Timothy 6:11-16
13. (Prayer)
14. For subject or thought “Characteristics of a Godly man”
15. Have you ever had something withheld from that you deserved?
16. Have you ever received something that you did not deserve?
17. Do you Identify yourself with Jesus?
18. Do you follow after Christ?
19. Do you dare to call yourself a Christian?
20. Paul concludes with a final charge recapping the major theme of the letter.
21. Paul’s charge to timothy consists of a series of four commands.
22. Run from all these evil things
23. Pursue righteousness
24. Fight the good fight for the true faith
25. Hold tightly to eternal life
26. Paul made an impassionate plea with Timothy – “You, man of God, Flee from all of this.”
27. The expression “man of God” means to be God’s Person.
28. But what was Timothy fleeing from?
29. Timothy was to flee from ungodliness.
30. Timothy was to live differently.
31. All Christian believers should live differently also.
32. If we have chosen to follow Christ, we have an obligation to him.
33. We must run away from all false teachers, pride, misguided thinking and greed.
34. God never calls us to give up something without giving us an alternative.
35. Ephesians 4:22-29 tells us “We are to put off the old nature and put on the new”. “we are to stop lying and speak honestly, to put away crude speech and say only beneficial things”.
36. As Christians we are to escape from the traps and temptations of money, selfish ambition, and intellectual sophistry.
37. God gives us six things we are to pursue with a single mind focus.
38. We are to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
39. These are all qualities as a man of god we should possess and should mark our life as a Christian.
40. Paul’s list of qualities closely matches the fruit of the spirit described in Galatians 5:22.
41. Timothy was to “fight the good fight of faith” just as an athlete competing in a sporting event.
42. He was to chase after behaviors, attitudes and habits would reflect him being in companionship with Jesus.
43. As a leader Timothy had the responsibility to defend the truth.
44. We are living in a world that is filled with false teachings.
45. There will always be attacks upon God’s truth.
46. We can find ourselves in a situation where professing Christians who are members of our congregations spread false teachings or encourage us to compromise on the Inspired word of God.
47. But as men of God, we must fight to uphold the truth of God.
48. If we know someone is trying to encourage us to do or introduce ideas to the church that is contrary to the divine scripture must fight against it every time.
49. We must correct this type of behavior with gentleness.
50. Paul told timothy to “take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
51. This eternal life is not just a future hope for when Christ returns.
52. We must live and demonstrate these eternal values in our daily lives now.
53. Our lives should demonstrate that we are harmony with God and his spirit.
54. This life is not a life that just ministers of the Gospel, or the elite are called to.
55. Every believer is called to this live.
56. If we are walking in true faith, we can no longer hide it.
57. Timothy gave public witness that he believed and trusted in Jesus.
58. To the men who are present this morning, are we giving a public witness that we believe and trust in Jesus?
59. Every aspect of our life should demonstrate and give a witness that we believe and trust in Jesus.
60. Our witness should not only be given on Sunday morning while we are at church.
61. Paul encouraged timothy to continue with strength and the clarity of his purpose.
62. Paul gave timothy his exhortation “in the sight of God, who gives life to everything.”
63. This is not just a nice sound phrase, but it is a critical truth.
64. God is sovereign over all life.
65. This is only possible because of God’s Mercy and life-giving power.
66. God cares for us with his strength and Goodness. This is the God Paul called as witness to the charge he gave Timothy.
67. To the men present today, we all have a calling.
68. It begins with our faith and confession
69. It grows with our intimate fellowship with Christ.
70. It is important that we study written word of God ourselves. We must pray daily without sease and repent for our sins.
71. Christ is fulfilling his life to the world through each of us individually.
72. Jesus’ calling was to reveal God in this world and to provide the way for people to know God.
73. Jesus did this by living holy, dying for mankind’s sin and being raised from the grave.
74. Paul delivered his command in the sight of “Christ Jesus , who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession.”
75. Jesus never wavered from the call of the father upon his life. He persevered unto death.
76. Paul extended the charge to timothy “keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ.
77. Timothy was to flee from unrighteousness and pursue the fullness of the Christian life.
78. Timothy was to devote himself growing intimacy with Jesus.
79. He was to have compassionate relationships with others.
80. He was to have unwavering guardianship of the truth found in the Scripture.
81. Every part of our life is to be lived under the full reign of Jesus.
82. We must do this with consistency so that sin interferes with no part of our life.
83. This not just a Sunday morning event, but it is a lifelong pursuit and commitment until Jesus returns.
84. The scripture tells us “at just the right time, Christ will be revealed from Heaven.”
85. God will do this in his own timing.
86. Paul breaks into an adoration of God.
87. Paul wanted to remind timothy of the greatness of the one who called him and to whom he ministered.
88. The purpose of Jesus first coming was to rescue sinners.
89. The purpose of his second coming will be to save believers.
90. God alone is immortal.
91. He has no beginning and no end.
92. Out of his life comes all other life.
93. Out of his immortality he grants eternal life.
94. We give thanks to God today for Mercy.
95. He withheld from us what we truly deserved. Because of our sin nature we deserved death.
96. We give God thanks today for his Grace.
97. He gave us what we did not deserve. Because of his love we hope for eternal life.
98. What does this mean?
99. There is no work any of us can do that will grant us eternal life.
100. Our new life will be totally dependent on God.
101. John 14:3 says “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you, to myself, that where I am, you may also. And where I go you know and the way you know.
102. New Hope I came to encourage you on this Men’s Day.
103. To the Men of New Hope, I came to share the charge that Paul shared with Timothy.
104. This message is for every believer who seated under the sound of my voice today.
105. The charge today is for the men of this great church to walk in the spirit of Timothy and be the person God called you to be.
106. God wants a personal relationship with each of us.
107. Jesus Went to the Cross
108. They whipped him
109. They hung high and stretched him wide.
110. Three Nails
111. Five Holes
112. He said it is finished
113. He died
114. But on the third day, he got up
115. Jesus is coming back.
116. How Do I know?
117. Revelation 19:7-9 says “Let us be glad and rejoice and give him glory, for the marriage of the lamb has comb and his wife has made herself ready and to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Then he said to me, write Blessed are those who are those who are called to the marriage super of the lamb: And he said to me these are the true sayings of God.
118. What must I do to be saved?
119. Romans 10:9 says “That if you confess with your mouth that the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the grave, you will be saved.”
120. Jesus is coming back to rapture the church.
121. We do not want to be left here after he comes back to gather his people.
122. If today was the last day of your life, do you know how you know how you will spend eternity.
123. Men take your rightful place today.
124. Live your life with the characteristics of the Godly man he intended for you to be.
