4 types of love in the bible:
Eros
Storge
Philia
Agape
“Eros” is the Greek word that is used to describe the romantic love between a man and a woman
Behold, you are beautiful, my love; behold, you are beautiful; your eyes are doves. Behold, you are beautiful, my beloved, truly delightful. Our couch is green;
“Storge” is the Greek word used to describe the natural, overflowing love that family members have for one another.
Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.
“Philia” is the Greek word used to describe deep, meaningful friendships.
David and Jonathon
As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
Then we come to Agape
“Agape” is the Greek word for sacrificial, self-giving love that is primarily concerned with the good of someone else.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
It’s totally giving - expecting nothing in return. This is what Jesus did…When we could do nothing - He died for us, so that we might be saved…
Salvation is a free gift, we have to accept it, and once we do, there is a cost - It’s saying goodbye to what might be earthly in us.
As we take a moment to reflect on the sacrificial love that sent Jesus to the cross, I want to ask you;
What inside you, which is not of God, is He asking you to give up?
