As responsible people we try to plan out our day, our week, the month, the school semester; but the reality is we really do not know what will happen.
We do our best to plan out what we need to do to achieve certain goals but at the end of the day we really do not have a guarantee that what we plan will come to pass.
We don’t know whether the material that we’ve studied will actually be on the test.
We don’t know whether our parent will loose their job and no longer be able to pay for our soccer or gymnastics class.
We don’t know whether our grandparent will still be healthy and visit us again this Christmas.
But what if we knew exactly what would happen to us?
What if we had some insight into the future to know everything that would happen to us.
This happened to the apostle Paul when he was in Cesarea.
Hechos de los Apóstoles 21:10–11 NIV
10 After we had been there a number of days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. 11 Coming over to us, he took Paul’s belt, tied his own hands and feet with it and said, “The Holy Spirit says, ‘In this way the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem will bind the owner of this belt and will hand him over to the Gentiles.’ ”
Agabus announced to Paul that he would be arrested in Jerusalem by the jews and be handed over to the gentiles.
Paul would be arrested and surely beaten - all for preaching about Jesus.
This news made the disciples extremely worried and sad for Paul because they knew Paul would not be safe in Jersualem.
Hechos de los Apóstoles 21:12 NIV
12 When we heard this, we and the people there pleaded with Paul not to go up to Jerusalem.
They wanted Paul to be safe so he could continue preaching about Jesus.
The point is that Paul knew that if he went to Jerusalem - he would suffer.
..and yet…what did Paul do with this information?
Hechos de los Apóstoles 21:13 NIV
13 Then Paul answered, “Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”
Paul had complete trust in God.
He was willing not only to be arrested but also to die for the name of Jesus Christ.
Paul trusted in God and would continue his journey to Jerusalem because he knew God’s hand would be with him every step of the way.
Now…the truth is that this was a very special circumstance in which God revealed to Paul what would happen to him in Jerusalem.
The reality is that we don’t know what will happen to us.
In God’s normal way of doing things - he does not reveal to us the challenges that will come our way.
…in fact, we could say we should be thankful for this because if we knew we likely would not enjoy life and live life to the fullest fearing for our lives.
So if we do not know the troubles and challenges that will come our way - what can we do to trust in God?
The disciples saw Paul’s absolute trust in God and in once voice said:
Hechos de los Apóstoles 21:14 NIV
14 When he would not be dissuaded, we gave up and said, “The Lord’s will be done.”
They needed to learn to trust in God’s will.
They needed to learn that the trouble that was waiting for Paul in Jerusalem was part of God’s will.
They needed to remember that God’s will is good. God’s will is perfect.
They needed to believe that God is with his people no matter the circumstances that may come our way.
Let us pray so that we may trust in God’s will when we are facing difficult circumstances.
We do not know when they will come.
We do not know what will happen tomorrow.
…but what we can do is to trust in God and believe that this too is part of God’s will that we fully trust that God is with us until the end of the age.
