Sin entered the world through Adam
Death entered because of sin
Death reigned because all have sinned
Death in our bodies - it lurks over us
Death in our relationships - primarily with God
Satan intended for death to separate us from God forever
Judgment - We are held accountable for our sin
Hebrews 9:27 “And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment,”
Death = Separation
Physical death - separation from body
Spiritual death - separation from God
Eternal death - separation for eternity (no hope)

A substitution - Someone to take my place
must be perfect to counter my sin, must be able to apply to all sinners, must be a divine/human substitution
