Why I chose this passage

I prayed and taught on this passage for Trinity Chapel

As we focus on prayer and revival in cornerstone we will see that Revival is messy

I titled this The Two Sons because many of us have heard of and are familiar with the prodigal son but we don’t realize that the focus of this story is actually on the older son.

Transition sentence: So if you guys want to flip over to Luke 15 we will be in this passage today. But before we jump to verse 11 I want to actually start in verse 1.

Big Truth: God Joyfully Receives Repentant Sinners

Background information

Jesus has been teaching the people of Israel and doing many miracles. We see demon possessed people being set free, the sick healed and yet the religious leaders of the day the pharisees and the scribes were upset with him.

Luke 15:1–2 “Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him. And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.””

The pharisees were upset that he was associating with these people.
