INTRO:
WATCH THIS VIDEO: Janitor cleaning lipstick off the mirror.
(TOILET PAPER BLOWER TIME)
Who used all the toilet paper and didn’t replace it?
LOL FUNNY:
Tiffany clogged toilet while visiting boyfriend’s grandparents at the holidays.
Prim, proper, not crud at all
Dug her hand into the toilet only to find that Ron’s grandpa had gone #2 and clogged the toilet.
We have a large family so we have a lot of bathrooms. And still we hear things like:
Who is in the bathroom? I need in there…
Who left the lid up
Who peed on the seat
Who left water on the floor
Wash the toothpaste out of the sink!
Who is kissing the mirror? (video: Use toilet water to clean mirror)
As a kid I remember kissing the mirror; when if steamed up in the bathroom my mom seen it.
Just this week I had to pull the trap apart in our bathroom and remove what looked like a dead body from my wife’s sink drain. Guys, you have not truly loved your wives until you have done this for them. LOL
Extremely intimate room in the house. Very private, isolation is the key. The most vulnerable moments of life.
MESSAGE:
1. THE TOILET SYMBOLIZES GETTING RID OF THE JUNK IN OUR LIVES
We all have or have had junk in our lives that we tried to keep contained or hidden
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
Confess Your Sins To The Ultimate Friend…Jesus.
But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.
Our garbage could never keep us from The Ultimate Friend.
From an Ultimate Enemy to an Ultimate Ally
Acts 7:54-60 introduced at Stevens stoning
Acts 8:3 Saul persecuting the church
Acts 9 Saul’s radical conversion on the road to Damascus.
If he forgave Saul, He’ll forgive you.
Lay down your junk at the cross today.
2. THE SHOWER SYMBOLIZES SANCTIFICATION
SANCTIFICATION IS THE PURIFYING AND CLEANSING WORK NEEDED IN OUR LIVES
Things not proper but a part of life
Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.
“When we embrace the world, there is a division between us and God, But when we embrace God there is a division between us and the world.” - Brad
Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.
Jesus at the Center of our lives means He touches every part of our lives. He is the center not a part. A part only touches so much…
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
“Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.”
Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.
Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.
Confess to a “Dung Friend” (Another way to stay pure and overcome)
First service… “did you say A dumb friend?”
A Dung friend is someone that we are open and honest with and lay our crud on.
A Dung friends can say blunt straight forward things without us getting bent out of shape.
A Dung friend holds us accountable.
ILLUSTRATION:
I kept returning to some old ways of life after rededicating my life to the Lord until a godly friend (Angel Lewis) entered my life and held me accountable.
Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.
“I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you.
How could one person chase a thousand of them, and two people put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the Lord had given them up?
As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.
In the Bible, a friend is defined as someone who loves and supports you in all circumstances, even through adversity, and is willing to lay down their life for you, as exemplified by Jesus's relationship with his followers.
The church is full of clicks… We hear that a lot.
The average ability of a person is to make 5 meaningful connections
Jesus had 12, but 3 were the “inner circle”
It is important for all us to have an inner circle.
“If you can count your true friends on the fingers of one hand, you are blessed!”
C.S. Lewis said, “Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, “What! You, too? I thought I was the only one.”
Don’t do like alone!!
3. THE MIRROR SYMBOLIZES PREPARING FOR PURPOSE
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror.
You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.
But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
A church leader must not be a new believer, because he might become proud, and the devil would cause him to fall.
Paul Wrote in:
Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.
I have gotten rid of the junk
I am on a path of purity, becoming more like Christ
NOW… Let’s prepare for purpose. Eternal, purpose.
Lastly, We need a Spiritually Mature Friend
(Rick McGough, Derek Johnson, Kevin Berry)
The master mind, the coach
They have been there, done that, and possess the victor’s trophy.
Peter, Paul, Timothy, Titus
Rich Clay - Life Coach
Fitting to end series regarding the different walks of life, depth of relationships, and the purpose we are called to serve.
ALTAR:
Have you left your junk at the feet of Jesus?
Have you been pursuing Holiness?
Have you prepared yourself for purpose?
