How many of us were at gathering this morning?
Ryan was talking about this concept of rest and it was convicting for me and I wanted to have a discussion with you guys.
What does it look like for a Leader to be restful?
Is there a difference between lazy leadership and restful leadership?
Lazy leadership:
Lazy leadership:
Lazy leadership doesn’t plan ahead, A lazy leader is last minute with everything no matter how big or how small they do not prioritize
A lazy leader does not delegate but carries everything on their own
A lazy leader does not go. The extra mile does not step out of the comfort zone only does what they’re comfortable with.
A lazy leader inspires laziness
Restful leadership:
Restful leadership:
The restful leader does the extra work to plan ahead, They have plans in place so that when they rest, they don’t have anxiety in the back of their mind
They prep growth community or Sunday mornings so that they can go on vacation and not think about what’s happening at home
A Restful liter properly delegates, They take time to find out who is gifted and give them opportunity to lead within those gifting
A restful leader has energy to go the extra mile and understands when they do. They’re investing in to future success and rest.
A restful leader inspires restful people
(Rest)
1 Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
2 It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.
31 And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.
(after they were sent out)
23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,
24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
(Not being lazy)
1 The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task.
2 Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
3 not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.
4 He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive,
5 for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church?
1 Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
17 Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us.
