We are studying the synopsis of the four Gospels.
30. The Journey into Galilee
All four gospels record Jesus going into Galilee.
All add extra information-
31. The Discourse with the Woman of Samaria
Only found in John’s Gospel
32. Ministry in Galilee
Matthew quotes Isaiah 9:1-2
All indicate the ministry Jesus did in Galilee
Matt - Preach “repent for the Kingdom of God is near”
Mark - Proclaimed the Gospel of God
Luke - Began to teach in their synagogues
John - Says the Galilean's welcomed him
33. Jesus’ Preaching at Nazareth
All four Gospels talk about a prophet not be honored in their home town.
But note how long Luke’s narration is.
Let’s read Luke 4:16-30 and see what it says.
34. The Call of the Disciples
We discussed the call of the disciples in a previous study so we won’t go into it here…
35. Teaching in the Synagogue at Capernaum
They all talk about Jesus going to Capernaum
They all record Jesus speaking with authority although Matt it is in 7:28-29 and John records it in 7:46
36. Healing of the Demoniac in the Synagogue
Only Mark and Luke record this even, but notice how close they are in telling the story…
37. The Healing of Peter’s Mother-in-law
Only the Synoptic Gospels record the healing of Peter’s Mother-in-law.
While all the details are not the same, they don’t contradict.
Something interesting to note, besides her healing, they all record that she served them right after she was healed!
38. The Sick is Healed at Evening
In all the synoptics this event happens directly after the healing of Peter’s mother-in-law.
Included healing and demon removal
39. Jesus Departs from Capernaum
Following the evening Healing, we have Jesus depart from Capernaum. While it is only stated in Mark and Luke, it is implied in the other gopsels.
40. First Preaching Tour in Galilee
Each of the synoptics mention Jesus teaching in the synagogues.
Mark adds casting out demons
Matt adds healing all kids of sickness
41. The Miraculous Draught of Fish
There are two references in the bible about a miracle that deals with catching of fish.
One is in Luke 5 - which surrounds the calling of some of the Disciples.
The other one is in John 21 - which is about Jesus after his resurrection eats breakfast with the disciples and where he encourages Peter.
42. The Cleansing of the Leper
Another story found in the Synoptics but not in John is the cleansing of the Leper. The story reads the same in all the accounts. And although it is in chapter 8 of Mark, chapter 1 of Mark, and chapter 5 of Luke it is most likely the same event.
43. The Healing of the Paralytic
Another story we find in all the gospels is the healing of the paralytic.
As you read the different accounts it is easy to see that Mark and Luke are telling the same story, but what about Matthew and John?
While Matthew doesn’t record the lowering of the mat through the roof, it does record Jesus’ interaction with the Pharisees and teachers of religious law.
John on the other hand is by a pool and doesn’t record interaction between the teachers of the religious law and Jesus
