A New King

Jesus is going to tell a new parable.
this parable is really for us today and every other believer through history from the beginning of the church
My introduction to this parable will be long because I want you to have the context
Unless you live in this time period you will have trouble understanding it
Harod the Great was the Rome appointed king of Israel and beyond
when Harod was dying he split up the region and appointed his 3 sons and kings in his place
Philip, Harod, and Archelaus
Larry, Curly ,and Moe
Moe was king in the Judea area
Moe had a summer home in Jericho
Moe the first thing he did was send roman troops to the temple to kill 3000 people
so he started off being hated by the people
but Moe as all sub kings has to have the blessing of Caesar to be king
the Israelites hated him so they sent a delegation of 300 to oppose him to Caesar
so Moe was not named as king but as an Entrach over a ethnic group only
so we have a king that has to go into a foreign land to receive his kingship. then he comes back and reigns with the Caesars ok
there are opposers who are against his kingship
so we have here a little background of what Jesus is going to say
but lets back up to verse 10 of Luke 19.
Jesus has come to seek and save
this is the mission of Jesus . to save men like Zacheus
Jesus is passing through Jericho on the way to Jerusalem
the people and disciples are anticipating the King to take over when they get there
V 11
they thought the Kingdom was Immediate
we have talked extensively about the kingdom so I wont go into detail now
V 12
after the explanation of Moe we know what this verse is saying
But lets look at the meaning. what is Jesus saying?
Jesus is telling the that He will go away to receive the kingdom
Psalm 110.
Psalm 2
Jesus has gone to the father to recieve the kingdom and when the time is right He will return with His scepter to rule
V 14
the citizens hated Him and sent a delegation
Mark 15:10–14 LSB
For he was aware that the chief priests had delivered Him over because of envy. But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to ask him to release Barabbas for them instead. And answering again, Pilate was saying to them, “Then what shall I do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?” And they shouted again, “Crucify Him!” But Pilate was saying to them, “Why? What evil did He do?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify Him!”
Matthew 27:25–26 LSB
And all the people answered and said, “His blood be on us and on our children!” Then he released Barabbas for them; but after having Jesus scourged, he delivered Him over to be crucified.
the delegation thought that they had won. we will see what happens to the delegation at the end
this delegation represents everybody who is not saved
but lets look at the part of this parable which speaks to us
what we have been

Entrusted With

V 13
10 bond servants, ones who want to be associated with the king
they have all been given 1 Mina apiece to invest into the kingdom on behalf of the king
what is this mina representing?
the mina is worth 3 months wages
but it represents the gospel
lets look at the progression in
Ephesians 2:8–10 LSB
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
This mina is part of your good works that Jesus prepared for us
1 Thessalonians 2:4 LSB
but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who examines our hearts
1 Timothy 1:11 LSB
according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.
the gospel has been entrusted to us
the Gospel is the mina
the gospel belongs to Jesus and He has entrusted this great responsibility to us
this is how we show our love to Jesus
this is how we invest into the kingdom
by spreading the good news of Jesus
V 13
called 10 gave each one
not more to one or two but equally
did not dismiss anyone from investing
this does not have anything to do with abilities. if you are a christian then you should be evangelizing
if you dont know something then learn. the Bible commands us to study to show yourself approved unto God
Wayne tells me he will strike up a conversation with someone in the grocery line
this is investing the mina that Jesus entrusted to you
the start point is when you get saved. the end point is when you are taken out of this world
At the end. at the rapture we will receive our

Rewards

V 14-17
your one has made 10 an 1000% increase
this man was very diligent to spread the gospel. to plant seeds and water them
Ive heard a story of a man who made a commitment to God to tell at least 5 people a day the good news of the gospel. this is what he did every day for the rest of his life
so what does Jesus say to this first man ?
well done good an faithful servant isn’t this what we all want to hear from our Savior?
the good job.. the trustworthiness of this man has earned him an even bigger responsibility
lets look at the second slave
V 18-19
this man only made 5 which is still pretty good
so Jesus rewards him with 5 cities to be over in this new kingdom
but did you notice what Jesus did not say?
well done good and faithful
could this person have done more?
I want you to look at something
Who’s mina was it?
what did the work?
V 16, 18
the gospel did the work
Romans 1:16 LSB
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
the gospel is the power
you only give the gospel
the hard labor of regenerating someone is done by the Holy Spirit
the cruel suffering was done by Jesus on the cross
The gospel is the one doing the work
Your mina has made 10 mina
now lets look at the

Tares

the tares are the weeds in the wheat field that the devil has sown
they are the unsaved who sit, or teach, or even pastor in churches
lets see what Jesus tells about them
V 20-23
this man accuses Jesus of being a harsh man
this man accuses Jesus of being a strict man
remember the video where this man says that God is not a black and white God ?
He is not strict
this last servant who is not a believer but still goes to church for his own reasons
there was a question posed. Is Jesus the only way?
here is one response
I struggle to accept that Christ is the only way, and all others are false. I'm pretty religiously pluralistic and take my spiritual ideas from all religions. I'm also not into the idea of the Great Commission and that we have to proselytize to others.
another person wrote goeticenby
Given that Jesus is divine, and that divinity is love, my take is that anyone, regardless of religious tradition, who sincerely follows the way of love epitomized in the person of Jesus is his follower. Doctrine and religion is not relevant, only Jesus and his way.
when you follow a Jesus that is of your own making you are breaking the second commandment
Exodus 20:4 LSB
“You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.
what does Jesus say to this servant?
V 22-23
V 24-26
give to the richest because he is the most trustworthy
give to the richest because he is the one I want to give to = grace
now Jesus is going to take care of all of the rest of the population
the ones who dont want anything to do with Him
the ones who hate him
V 27
We have been given the gospel to give away
this great responsibility has been entrusted to us
what are you doing with this great work that you have been given?
will our Master say to us at the judgement well done good and faithful?
are you studying to show yourselves approved unto God ?
