Psalm 23

A Psalm of David. 1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Here are some REASONS that I can show you why I would rather have Jesus.

I. The Person of Christ. v.1

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
(cf--Philippians 4:19)

II. The Provision of Christ. v.2

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
“still waters” - a type of Scripture (Matthew 4:4; Joshua 1:8)

III. The Paths of Christ. v.3

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
(Psalm 119:133; Isaiah 2:22; John 15:16; Ephesians 4:11; 2 Timothy 4:2)

IV. The Presence of Christ. v.4

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
(Matthew 28:18-20; Ephesians 1:13; 4:30; John 16:7-14)

V. The Power of Christ. v.5

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
(Acts 1:8; 1 Thessalonians 1:5; 2 Corinthians 5:17 contrast with Psalm 55:19)

VI. The Peace of Christ. v.6

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
(Romans 5:1-5; 8:6; 14:17; Galatians 5:22; Philippians 4:7)
