“The more you try not to fit in, the further you compress yourself into a smaller mold.”
12 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
“I appeal you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God…”
What are God’s Mercies?
God’s mercies culminate in Christ Jesus, who was born, died, and raised to atone for our sins.
To present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
How do we present ourselves as a living sacrifice?
We present ourselves as living sacrifices by intentionally seeking to please God as a response, having carefully weighed all the evidence that God has done for us through Christ Jesus.
Do not be conformed to this world,
How do we not conform to the world?
Not conforming to the world means no longer aligning ourselves with our culture's values, beliefs, customs, and social norms. Instead, we allow the Spirit to guide us in assessing, testing, and measuring our standard of living relative to the world.
We are in the world but not of the world.
“but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
How do we renew our minds?
We renew our minds by accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior, allowing the Holy Spirit into our hearts, and intentionally seeking God by testing and discerning His will through our daily habits of scripture reading, praying, and community.
