Bible Reading Week 13 (5th Sunday)
This Week’s Theme: The Sign of His Presence
Word for the Week is Omnipresence: God transcends all limitations of space and time and is fully present everywhere at the same time but in varying ways
Memory verse: Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV) Fear not, for I [am] with you; Be not dismayed, for I [am] your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
Sermon Focus: In Jesus’ presence we have no need to fear.
Sermon Passage: John 6:16-21
16 Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea,
17 got into the boat, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was already dark, and Jesus had not come to them.
18 Then the sea arose because a great wind was blowing.
19 So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were afraid.
20 But He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.”
21 Then they willingly received Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.
If you've ever struggled with obeying your parents or maintaining a positive attitude at home, remember that fulfilling Christ's commands means honoring your family. You can make a conscious effort to listen to your parents and discuss your daily experiences with them. Create a weekly family night where you share about your week, your faith, and how you can support one another in fulfilling God's commands together. This will strengthen your relationship and help everyone align their actions with Christ's teachings.
I. Complying to Christ’s Command
I. Complying to Christ’s Command
16 Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea,
17 got into the boat, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was already dark, and Jesus had not come to them.
MARK AND MATTHEW’S ACCOUNT HELPS US PUT TOGETHER HOW THIS HAPPEN WITH INFO THAT JOHN DID NOT INCLUDE.
45 Immediately He made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while He sent the multitude away.
46 And when He had sent them away, He departed to the mountain to pray.
MATTHEW 14:22 SAYS THE SAME
22 Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away.
JESUS SENT THEM TO THE OTHER SIDE AND THEY OBEYED.
ISN’T THAT WHAT DISCIPLES DO?
WE JUST FOLLOW THE COMMANDS OF OUR LORD?
NOAH OBEYED
22 Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.
ABRAHAM OBEYED
4 So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.
JOSHUA OBEYED
15 As the Lord had commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did. He left nothing undone of all that the Lord had commanded Moses.
HEZEKIAH OBEYED
6 For he held fast to the Lord; he did not depart from following Him, but kept His commandments, which the Lord had commanded Moses.
JOSEPH AND MARY OBEYED
39 So when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.
ILLUSTRATION
One day, I decided to follow all the rules of THE home – you know, THE CHORES I WAS ASSIGNED. I MADE A SCHEDULE AND PICKED up after myself, CLEANED THE BATHROOMS, WASHED the dishes , and even WASHED AND FOLDED MY CLOTHES, without being asked! It was a small task but I transformed into the ‘model citizen’ of my house overnight.
It made me realize that fulfilling commands isn’t just about obedience; it can be joyful and lead to unexpected blessings, much like how following Christ leads to joy in our lives!
HIS COMMANDS COME FROM HIS WORD
COMPLY TO CHRIST’S COMMANDS
COMPLY TO CHRIST’S COMMANDS
AND His WORD WILL not only...
...teach, BUT OBEDIENCE WILL transform YOU..
...instruct, BUT OBEDIENCE WILL inspire …YOU
...enlighten, BUT OBEDIENCE WILL empower …YOU
COMPLY TO CHRIST’S COMMANDS
COMPLY TO CHRIST’S COMMANDS
...feed, BUT OBEDIENCE WILL fortify YOU...
...reveal, BUT OBEDIENCE WILL REVIVE YOU
direct, BUT OBEDIENCE WILL delight …YOU
and,
...speak TO YOU , BUT OBEDIENCE WILL SATISFY YOU
His WORD is also comforting, complet clusive, competent, confident, candid, well as cutting..
II. Connecting with Christ in Chaos
II. Connecting with Christ in Chaos
18 Then the sea arose because a great wind was blowing.
19 So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were afraid.
THEY FOUND THEMSELVES IN THE CRISIS
THEY WERE AT A CRUCIAL TIME ROWING 3 OR 4 MILES IN WHICH A TROUBLE WAS IMPENDING
Requires a good amount of physical LABOR
THEY FACED sustained resistance and potentially dangerous situations if the wind is strong enough to create large waves or if you lose control of the boat. It’s important to assess the weather, your abilities, and safety measures before attempting such a journey.
AND EXHAUSTED THEN TO SEE SOMETHING THEY HAD NEVER SEEN BEFORE.
A MAN WALKING ON THE WATER
IT DID NOT SAY STUMBLING
CHRIST MADE
THE ROUGH WAVES STILL FOR HIM
THE WINDS DID NOT MAKE HIM WOOBLE
YET THE DISCIPLES IN THIS SITUATION
THEY HAD FEAR INSTEAD OF FAITH
7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
CHRIST WANTED THEM TO HAVE
FAITH IN UNCERTAINTY
HE WANTED THEM TO
CONNECT WITH HIM IN THE CHAOS
CONNECT WITH HIM IN THE CHAOS
TO CONFRONT THE FEAR
Face your fear
Embrace the fear
Tackle your anxiety
Brave your fears
Stand up to your fear
10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
WILL YOU
Conquer your fear
Overcome your apprehensions
Address your fear
Deal with your fear head-on
Trusting the unknown
Belief without seeing
Confidence in the unseen
Hope amid doubt
Leap of faith
Assurance in ambiguity
Stepping into the unknown
Holding onto hope
Relying on the invisible
Embracing uncertainty

HIS PRESENCE GIVES US PEACE
11 The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace.
ABUNDANT PEACE
165 Great peace have those who love Your law, And nothing causes them to stumble.
PERFECT PEACE
3 You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.
FLOW LIKE A RIVER
18 Oh, that you had heeded My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.
10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
WITH US
HEAR THE WORDS OF CALEB
9 Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them.”
WHAT THEY HAVE IS DIFFERENT THAN WHAT WE HAVE AS CHRISTIANS.
LOOK AT THE 2 CHRONICLES
8 With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people were strengthened by the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
7 The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the demands of family life, struggling to balance chores, emotional support, and Christ's teachings? Start a family devotion night each week where you discuss a command of Jesus. Make it interactive—create a 'command challenge' where each family member shares how they can personally fulfill that command during the week. This not only brings Christ’s teachings into your family discussions but also fosters accountability and love, strengthening your bond and commitment to living out faith at home.
