John 2:1-12

John 2:1 “1 On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.”
On the third day - maybe meant to put into the minds of the reader the resurrection.
John is not writing a newspaper or a journalistic account of what is happening like Luke does. He has a clear goal in mind. He wants you to see Jesus as God and for you to believe in him for salvation.
Therefore I think it’s safe to say that John put’s these details in his text because he wants you to see something. He wants something to come to your mind. He wants you to think about the resurrection
John 2:6 “6 Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons.”
Again, another detail that must matter. I don’t think Jesus used these water jars because they happened to be lying around. He filled with wine the very thing that the Jews used to purify themselves. He then serves wine as a picture of His blood the very thing that purifies people of their sin.
John is pointing to who Jesus is. The Messiah who has come to spill his blood for the purification of sins. One day these water jars won’t be filled with wine but with His blood.
Also think about John 6 where He tells his disciples to eat of his flesh and drink of his blood.
It is the blood of Christ that is the best wine to drink.
