Friends, we are gathered today in the sight of God and in the presence of these witnesses to join together this man and this woman in holy matrimony; which is an honorable estate, instituted by God, and adorned by our Lord Jesus Christ by his presence.
It is commended by the Apostle Paul to be honorable among all men; and therefore is not to be entered into lightly, but reverently, soberly, discretely.
The Holy scriptures set before you the love of Christ for his church, as an example for your devotion. You are not left without guidance concerning the meaning of that love, These are the words of the Great Apostle:
Love is patient and kind, love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
The Bible teaches us to let our hearts be knit together in love. There will be times when it will seem easier to quit than to knit - but its not. Just keep on knitting your hearts together, committing yourselves to Christ, submitting yourselves to each other, and emitting the fruit of the Spirit in the context of a godly family life.
This is God’s plan for you - His fellowship of love and excitement for all those who walk with the Master and work on the marriage.
Would you please join your right hands?
John, do you take Jeannie to be your lawful wedded wife, to love and to cherish, to have and to hold and forsaking all others to keep yourself to her only so long as you both shall live?
Jeannie, do you take John to be your lawful wedded husband, to love and to cherish, to have and to hold and forsaking all others to keep yourself to her only so long as you both shall live?
The wedding ring is a fitted symbol of these vows. The shape of the ring reminds us that marriage is a never-ending relationship which grows sweeter through the ever-encircling years.
John, will you place the ring on Jeannie’s finger and repeat after me?
This ring I give to you……in token and pledge…….of our constant faith……and abiding love.

Please join me in prayer:
Father, we look to you as the source of every good thing in our life. Some time ago, you looked down as these two pledged their love and commitment to one another. You have watched and participated as their love has grown as their journey through life has continued. We look to you now for continued and renewed blessings on them. Give them good spirits and abundant love for one another. I ask that the fruit of the spirit would be evident in their lives. Give them a love, which is their life. Give them a love, which is beyond their natural ability to love - a love which comes from you.
Give them your peace and confidence that you are committed to their marriage. Give them the simple ability to be gracious to one another. Grant them the gift of gentleness and self-control. Bring a new joy to their marriage. Allow each to be confident in their love of the other. Give them the freedom to love as you have loved them. Thank you father that you have given us the gift of yourself.
In Jesus name I pray, Amen
Now upon your mutual promise, made in the presence of God and these witnesses, and according to the authority invested in me as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, I pronounce you husband and wife…..John, you may kiss your bride!
