What does it mean?
Different ideas
Writing of the law
The finger of God

And he gave to Moses, when he had made an end of speaking with him upon Mount Sinai, the two tables of the covenant, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

The Holy Spirit as Finger of God
New Law
Isaiah reading

For I will pour water on the thirsty land,

and streams on the dry ground;

I will pour my Spirit upon your descendants,

and my blessing on your offspring.

Jesus first writes on the dust of the earth, to remind us that it is he who wrote the Law, then he writes on the heart of the woman.
Confession

18 “Remember not the former things,

nor consider the things of old.

19 Behold, I am doing a new thing;

now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
