Alright well before we begin our meeting we’ll start things off with a devotional from 2 Chronicles 20:12. And that passage reads “Oh God, will you not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are one you.”
And in this passage, Jehoshaphat king of Judah is advised of an impending invasion by the Moabites and the Ammonites. And in verse 3 of that chapter it says that Jeho feared. But instead of being consumed by His fear, he wisely decided to seek the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast in Judah, and all the people rallied around Jehoshaphat. It says, So Judah gathered together to ask help from the Lord; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.
And then in verses 5-12 it says, Then Jeho stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord before the new court and said,
And so I chose this passage because it’s a good reminder for us as individuals and us as a church family. Now we aren’t facing invasion and the stress and uncertain that I imagine that would bring but I know, I myself sometimes wonder what the future holds here at BCC, and it’s like what next Lord, I don’t know what to do. But really it just comes down to just that, admitting that, yeah I don’t know what to do. And corporately I pray that’s our posture as well, as we head into another church year, not that we don’t necessarily know what to do, but that we as a church family, as we face the uncertainty of the future, that we too we seek the Lord and fast and pray in all that we do, and remember that God is faithful, and that we can trust Him. And so that is my hope and prayer as we look ahead, our attitude would be one of reliance on the Lord, trusting in Him.
Alright, let’s pray: Oh Lord, as we now gather together to discuss important matters of Your Church, even now Lord we fix our eyes on you asking us to lead us and guide us. Would we be united in spirit as a church family, and would you give us the knowledge and wisdom to handle and discuss and sort through the matters and issues of your Church in a way that is pleasing and honoring and glorifying to You. And so Lord we ask that Your Spirit be upon this place and this meeting, in Jesus name. Amen.
