The Book of Jeremiah

Great to Have Pastor Melvin back,
It was awesome to have Kate, Mimi, Zoey, and Justin/
Great job to the Caters.
“To fashion a world has less difficulty in it than to create a new life in an ungodly man; for, in the creation of the world, there was nothing in the way of God; but, in the creation of the new heart, there is the old nature opposing the Spirit.”
It takes more difficulty to make the ungodly man godly then to make all of the created world. Because there is no opposition to creating the heavens and the earth. But there oppostions in creating a new heart in the ungodly. Man has a will that is in the way, a sin nature that is in the way, the world system in the way,
God created the world in six days and every living thing it in. But how long does it take to make a faith, consist, man or women of God.
Jeremiah 17:1 NKJV
“The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron; With the point of a diamond it is engraved On the tablet of their heart, And on the horns of your altars,
They were so entrenched in there sin it was chiseled in there heart.
Judah’s sin was so deeply ingrained that it was as though its sin had been engraved with an “iron tool” (cf. Job 19:24), with a “flint point,” an instrument used to carve inscriptions on stone.
Job 19:24 NKJV
That they were engraved on a rock With an iron pen and lead, forever!
There sin was so engraved it was irreversible.
There was a permanence of the nations sin.
Even when there was a sign of them turning to God, it was out of pretense. It wasn’t real.
You ever hear of the phrase, “its written in stone” meaning it can’t be changed.
There was nothing they could do for God to relent at this point.
Jeremiah 2:22 NKJV
For though you wash yourself with lye, and use much soap, Yet your iniquity is marked before Me,” says the Lord God.
We pride ourselves on sayings like. “Second chance”, you can always start over, Begin Again, Or New Mercies.
But imagine a life where this isn’t an option. When these sayings are vain.
King Manasseh took Judah down this spiral but he eventually repented. But the people he led down this spiral never recovered.
2 Chronicles 33:12–13 NKJV
Now when he was in affliction, he implored the Lord his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, and prayed to Him; and He received his entreaty, heard his supplication, and brought him back to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord was God.
This is a message for our leaders to guard our hearts with we handle and lead God people.
Because we can repent but those who God placed in our lives to minister to maybe they won’t recover.
But not only was this sin in there hearts but also at the horns of the altar.
The “horns” were stone projections at the top of each altar on the four corners.
The horns of the altar reveal that there was sinful worship practices that where dedicated to other gods.
The priest where suppose to smear blood on the horns of the altar as an atoning of mans sins. As a remove of mans sins.
Exodus 27:2 NKJV
You shall make its horns on its four corners; its horns shall be of one piece with it. And you shall overlay it with bronze.
Exodus 29:12 NKJV
You shall take some of the blood of the bull and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger, and pour all the blood beside the base of the altar.
So instead of the altars being a symbol of the removal of mans sins the altars become a symbols of man sins.
Whats needed for the revival of this nation was radical spiritual surgery on individual human hearts.
Jeremiah 24:7 NKJV
Then I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the Lord; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God, for they shall return to Me with their whole heart.
The only way we can know God if He gives us the heart to do so. His mind and His will to do so.
If you look throughout the book of Romans 7. You see what mans will does.
Romans 7:14 NKJV
For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.
How can a carnal man do spiritual things. The natural man cannot comprehend spiritual things.
Carnal means my natural propensity is to sin. My default is sin.
My carnality can not do good or rightoues acts.
Me in my carnality if I look at the law I will just become exceedingly more condemned.
But the problem isn’t the law but its the sin. The sin brought death, but the law makes sin exceedingly more sinnful.
So say you are in a place where theres no speed limit. So you are going 100 miles a hour. You won’t get arrested for speeding but that doesn’t take way from the consequence of getting into a accident, loosing control of the car, harming yourself or someone else.
Now if there is a law that says the speed limit is 60 mph and I go 100 mph I can get pulled over get a take possibly arrested depending on how many times I offended etc. The law man speeding that much more bad.
Its the same thing with our sin. Sin is bad within it self. But the law makes it exceedingly much more sinful. The law isn’t bad its just spiritual and I can’t live up to what is spiritual only the Spirit of God can do that!
Your own desire for God isn’t from you but from God.
The Law is Spiritual because The Law comes from God who is Spirit.
John 4:24 NKJV
God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
The problem is that I am unspiritual.
Grace in the heart of man is an exotic. It is a new principle from without, sent down from heaven and implanted in his soul.
J. C. Ryle
Grace in the heart of man is foreign. Like we know when grace has arrived because I have an appetite for God and spiritual things.
See we were sold under sin. That word sold is like a slave being trafficked.
Romans 7:15 NKJV
For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.
Romans 7:16–19 NKJV
If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.
Romans 7:20–25 NKJV
Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.
When the soul surrenders itself to Christ, a new power takes possession of the new heart.
Ellen Gould White
Its not enough to change our mood or habits. We need a heart exchange. We need the Holy Spirit to do a work in our souls.
Its not enough for us to have policy changes or governmental change we need heart surgery.
WE need a heart transplant.
The sin of Judah was so deep its like its been engraved with an iron tool.
Ezekiel 36:26–27 NKJV
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.
Ezekiel 11:19 NKJV
Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh,
2 Corinthians 3:3 NKJV
clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.
Jeremiah 31:33 NKJV
But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
Psalm 51:10 NKJV
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
None but God can create either a new heart or a new earth. The Treasury Of David, Psalm 51, Verse 10
Charles Spurgeon
Deuteronomy 30:6 NKJV
And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live.
Give me a clean heart renew in me a right spirit within me.
Jeremiah 17:2 NKJV
While their children remember Their altars and their wooden images By the green trees on the high hills.
Their sin was not only chiseled on there hearts, and at the horns of the altar, now they are passing it on to there kids.
In order for you to pass something on to you kids you must really believe in it. There sin had no limits and they were beyond coming back.
there Idolatry earn them permanent hostility
Jeremiah 17:3 NKJV
O My mountain in the field, I will give as plunder your wealth, all your treasures, And your high places of sin within all your borders.
The mountain is referring to Jerusalem. God would give away their wealth and treasures as a plunder to the enemy because of their sins.
