Introduction: Reflect on one more session of Good News Club, Fall dates forthcoming - God judges sins; God saves those who trust in Him; God’s presence gives us confidence to obey; we don’t put conditions on obeying the Lord; new judge who faced a great challenge that is no challenge to the Lord.
Content and Explanation: Judges 7:13
The Lord brought Gideon to the encampment of the enemy, a scary place, to overhear a weird dream that demonstrated God’s working to give His people victory over their enemies.
Judges 7:14
Gideon overheard the strangest dream about a loaf of bread wiping out an army that demonstrated how the Lord was at work in making the enemy scared and giving the Israelites the victory. (sandwich)
Judges 7:15
Gideon is ready to obey the Lord and encourages others to do the same based on seeing God’s hand at work in making the enemy afraid.
Though we’re not Israelites, we’ve seen God at work through sending Jesus and through His Holy Spirit producing love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in the lives of those who have believed on Jesus to save them from their sins.
Judges 7:21 - Friends, look at how the Lord defeats the Midianites so that they run away afraid and crying!
Application: Because the Lord is faithful, obey Him confidently.
Seeing God’s hand at work gave Gideon the confidence to obey the Lord.
Friends, if you’re going to obey the Lord, you’ve got to have God’s Holy Spirit, Who will be given to you when you believe on Jesus to save you from your sins.
Friends, if you’ve believed on Jesus to save you, then you can ask Jesus to forgive you when you’ve disobeyed and ask God’s Holy Spirit to empower your obedience and you’ll know that the Lord is at work through the fruit of the Spirit.
Friends, this means that when you don’t feel like being nice to your sibling, you can.
You’ve seen God work before when He produced in your life things like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Therefore, you can be confident that, when you trust the Holy Spirit to help you obey, He can do so.
