Remember this morning? Do you like a good sandwich?
We talked about the Markan sandwich of Jairus’ Daughter—Woman with hemorrhage—Jairus’ daughter
Woman with Hemorrhage — Meat
Jairus daughter — the bread
One difference in this narrative is that Jairus was a synagogue official.
He didn’t live of the fringes of society he was in the middle of it, a well esteemed member of society
With a great deal of earnest Jairus pleads with Jesus to heal his little daughter
He little girl is near the end of her life, it is happening soon!
The pause with the woman with the hemorrhage has led to the death of his daughter.
With the death of hi daughter there is now no need for Jesus to come.
Jesus responds Mark 5:36
Mark 5:36 NASB 2020
36 But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, said to the synagogue official, “Do not be afraid, only believe.”
Only Peter, James, and John are allowed to go further with Jesus.
When they get to the house they are met with mourners, those paid to wale with the family!
Mark 5:39 NASB 2020
39 And after entering, He said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child has not died, but is asleep.”
Jesus tells everyone to leave except Peter, James, John, and the parents
Mark 5:41–43 NASB 2020
41 And taking the child by the hand, He said to her, “Talitha, kum!” (which translated means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” ). 42 And immediately the girl got up and began to walk, for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were completely astonished. 43 And He gave them strict orders that no one was to know about this, and He told them to have something given her to eat.
It is interesting that Jairus daughter 12 the length of time that the woman with the hemorrhage lived with the problem
Both had faith that Jesus could heal.
It seems though that Jairus faith was food only as long as she lived.
Fear set in because she died, and now he was anxious and apprehensive about what has happened
Jesus by telling Jairus to believe is basically saying trust me
Where the woman with the hemorrhage believed so much that she did whatever was necessary to get to Jesus, just touching would bring healing!
Is our faith like Jairus or the woman?
Jairus needed to be reassured to trust Jesus — sometimes we do too
The woman with hemorrhage had faith and just reached out to Jesus for healing.
Which are you right now?
