Psalm 119:113–120 “ I hate the double-minded (divided loyalties), But I love Your law. 114 You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word. 115 Depart from me, you evildoers, For I will keep the commandments of my God! 116 Uphold me according to Your word, that I may live; And do not let me be ashamed of my hope. 117 Hold me up, and I shall be safe, And I shall observe Your statutes continually. 118 You reject all those who stray from Your statutes, For their deceit is falsehood. 119 You put away all the wicked of the earth like dross; Therefore I love Your testimonies. 120 My flesh trembles for fear of You, And I am afraid of Your judgments.”
the law reminds us of our need for Christ. A constant reminder that there can never be good enough to save in us unless it comes from somewhere else. Its terrifying
Obedience, observance (to what is required) is relationship. But the law instructs us, keeps us, looking at him.
Galatians 3:21–25 “ Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. 22 But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. 23 But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. 24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.”

Psalm 119:121–128 “ I have done justice and righteousness; Do not leave me to my oppressors. 122 Be surety for Your servant for good; Do not let the proud oppress me. 123 My eyes fail from seeking Your salvation And Your righteous word. 124 Deal with Your servant according to Your mercy, And teach me Your statutes. 125 I am Your servant; Give me understanding, That I may know Your testimonies. 126 It is time for You to act, O Lord, For they have regarded Your law as void. 127 Therefore I love Your commandments More than gold, yes, than fine gold! 128 Therefore all Your precepts concerning all things I consider to be right; I hate every false way.”
I pray this for myself all the time. I have to struggle with this on an ongoing basis.
We sought the Lord and then had discussions and gave a place for the Lord to move in on a regular basis and no one acted.
We offer questions and answers, we discuss and modify teachings based on the Word. I absolutely love Gods Word. I really do. Its so much better than Gold for sure. So I wanna be sure we don’t get it wrong. But I also don’t want to do something in the flesh so gues what, turn to: Acts 7, though i know we see the gifts and even the operation of said Gifts primarily in 1Co 12-14, I want to look at these base on this Psalm
Acts 7:51–53 “ “You stiff-necked stubborn and uncircumcised gentile/without law in heart and ears no love/relationship! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you. 52 Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers, 53 who have received the law by the direction of angels and have not kept it.””
Look at the character of those resisting the Holy Spirit.
Stiff-necked. They resist God, not the flesh. They give in and give way to do their own will, not Yahwehs
They rejected the guiding of the HS by rejecting Jesus and his commands. I don’t see myself nor our fellowship as resisting the HS in this manner. They tried to stomp out the promise of messiah. Has anything changed?
Ephesians 4:29–32 “ Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”
Notice the commands preceding and following. Our speech, how we talk to others, can grieve the HS. We are reminded he Sealed (put his stamp of ownership on) us by being our seal or our engagement rings. The guarantee of the engagement per-se.
The negative qualities to put away, bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor evil speaking and all malice. But, it’s not just don’t be mean but;
Be kind. Tenderhearted, forgiving each other. We know what it looks like. Love looks like the law being fulfilled.
I think that our church reflects that, we could always do better, but even still, we find ourselves striving to observe both side of this coin. Notice too, that even filled with the promise, we have to be reminded over and over those corrections from the Lord. Paul even corrected Peter who wrote Scripture. Are we better?
1 Thessalonians 5:14–22 “ Now we exhort encourage you, brethren, warn those who are unruly idle, comfort the fainthearted discouraged, uphold the weak, be patient with all. 15 See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, will always need prayer 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench extinguish the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.”
Those 3 major traits here, to Rejoice, Pray, Give thanks!
Just because our favorite evil might not be listed, he says EVERY FORM. lol.
Don’t despise prophecies. I like some lessons or teachings from people i don’t like. WE NEED TO TEST WHAT WE HEAR BY THE WORD/SPIRIT. It matters, because God can use donkeys.
