So we left of our David study when David had been sent to King Saul to play the harp for him due to the tormenting spirit that God had allowed to come upon him, Saul was very pleased with David and asked Jesse if he could keep David in his service.
So now at this time David is serving King Saul as an armor bearer which was someone who would act as the kings body gaurd and assist him in battle.
RE- cap all the steps God took to put David in the right place at the right time, Gods timing and Gods process are perfect and he often doesn’t reveal to us the whole story.
Read 1 Samuel 17:1-31
Verse 4, In ancient times , rival forces would sometimes agree to let selected individuals from each side decide a conflict. This reduced casualties and other cost. Gath was one of the five Philistine cities with a reputation for having giants as citizens.
Verse 11, Goliaths intention was to strike fear in to the hearts and minds of his opponent and lets be honest I can see why that would be scary..
This is true today when it comes to the enemy because he uses fear as a means of control to keep us from things we need to do or should do.
Saul had a reason to be afraid because if we remember God had taken His spirit away from him and Saul was a large man in stature himself but with out God his courage was gone.
Its important to remember that David still maintained his duties at him as a shepherd he would continue to make sure his sheep were well kept and also be of service for the King. It shows Davids heart and his stewardship as to the things God has given him responsibilities over.
Verse 22-24, Every single man in the Israelite camp was terrified and wouldn’t dare take on Goliath .
Verse 25-27, We really see a bit of Davids heart here and he is concearned with the things God cares about . David is known to be a man after Gods own heart.
