Luke 9:1–6 NASB 95
And He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all the demons and to heal diseases. And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to perform healing. And He said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, neither a staff, nor a bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not even have two tunics apiece. Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that city. And as for those who do not receive you, as you go out from that city, shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.” Departing, they began going throughout the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.
The countryside is overcome with talk of Jesus
4:21 Jesus say He is the fulfillment of Isa 62 and following
Luke 4:21 NASB 95
And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

And turning His gaze toward His disciples, He began to say, “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. Blessed are you when men hate you, and ostracize you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man.

Jesus laid His Power aside for our sake (37-45)

He must first fulfill His role as suffering servant
Isaiah was clear about this in chapters 52-53
Jesus made it clear
Luke 6:22 NASB 95
Blessed are you when men hate you, and ostracize you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man.
Luke 6:44 NASB 95
For each tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they pick grapes from a briar bush.

Jesus reveals that the Kingdom of God has four basic principles (46-62)

we want the miracles, the food, the gift of eternity …
Do we want a king???

Service (46-48)

Luke 6:48 NASB 95
he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.

Unity (49—50)

Luke 9:50 NASB 95
But Jesus said to him, “Do not hinder him; for he who is not against you is for you.”

Love over Hate (51-56)

Luke 9:56 NASB 95
for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.” And they went on to another village.

Full Devotion (57-62)

Someone volunteers to follow, count the cost
He calls one to follow and they simply want to attend a funeral, but He lets them know that sometimes their family will be without you
Another commits to follow after saying goodbye and He lets them know they can’t look back.
Luke 9:62 NASB 95
But Jesus said to him, “No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Who is Jesus to you?
Luke 9:18–20 NASB 95
And it happened that while He was praying alone, the disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying, “Who do the people say that I am?” They answered and said, “John the Baptist, and others say Elijah; but others, that one of the prophets of old has risen again.” And He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered and said, “The Christ of God.”
