YOUR SEARCH LEAVES YOU EMPTY UNTIL YOU SEEK JESUS

Background Info:
Israel is not a big place. In fact this is the size comparison to Texas. Is Louisiana bigger than Israel?
How many tribes are in Israel? 12 and each have territory (except Levi). Benjamin is the smallest tribe.
So if Israel is smaller than Louisiana, and Benjamin is the smallest tribe in Israel, How big is Saul’s tribe compared to Red River Parish?

Background Info:
-Tribe Benjamin = 378 square miles
-Red River Parish = 402 square miles (Includes lakes) (Land = 389 sq/mi)
Red River Parish is bigger than the Tribe of Benjamin.

YOUR SEARCH LEAVES YOU EMPTY UNTIL YOU SEEK JESUS

Connection:
Saul and his servant went all across “Red River Parish” and even north into “Bossier Parish” (Tribe of Ephriam) to find what...?
Donkeys... Why search all over the parish on foot and then go into bossier parish to find donkeys?
They were important to them. Whatever is important to you, you spend time seeking. Whether its friendships, relationships, social media, youtube, sports, church, food, etc...
Content:
What would have satisfied Saul and his servant in their search? To find the donkeys. BUT they couldn’t find them and so they weren’t satisfied.
Scripture says in Ecclesiastes 1:2
Ecclesiastes 1:2 CSB
“Absolutely pointless,” says the Teacher. “Absolutely pointless. Everything is pointless.”

YOUR SEARCH LEAVES YOU EMPTY UNTIL YOU SEEK JESUS

Nothing in this world will satisfy you. It will all fade away.
So what did Saul and his servant do? They turned to a man who can point them to God (the Seer). VERSE 9
Seer = רֹאֶה (ro’eh) is seer and ראה (Ra’ah) is the root word for seer. It means to “See, understand, reveal”
The seer is the prophet of the day. The prophets job was to reveal and let the people see God.
Who’s the one who lets people know and understand God today? … it’s not me and its not a pastor. Jesus is the seer (the one who reveals) God the Father to us.
Saul and His servant couldn’t find what they desired (donkeys) so they turned to the seer for help.
You may not be able to be satisfied by friendships, relationships, family, sports, or social media, BUT if you turn to the seer (Jesus) he will satisfy you.
Psalm 107:9 CSB
For He has satisfied the thirsty and filled the hungry with good things.
Matthew 5:6 CSB
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

WHEN YOU SEEK GOD THROUGH JESUS, HE WILL FILL YOU

Summary:
Saul goes with his servant to the city and right outside the city gate they saw a women at a well. they asked her where the seer was. She answered, “He is ahead of you so hurry into the city because he is about to bless the sacrifice for the people and then have a BBQ.”
Saul and his servant got to the city gate, he asked a man, “Where is the seer’s house?” the man replied, “I am the seer” (this is samuel btw)
Samuel then invited Saul and his servant to eat with them at the BBQ and then told him, tomorrow, “I’ll tell you everything that’s in your heart.”
Then he says, “don’t worry about the donkey’s. They are safe. I have more important things to share with you.”
Explanation:
The seer (Samuel) is going to reveal to Saul who God desires him to be. He is going to give him purpose and that will be far more satisfying than finding his donkey’s.
Apply:
For us, When we seek God through Jesus, our desire is to know Him more (just like you would a relationship with BF or GF). However the difference between Jesus and the BF or GF is that God will reveal to you what’s in your heart and fill you with purpose.
How do I seek God through Jesus?
Know you are a sinner who is separated from knowing God
Know Jesus died on the cross to take the penalty of separation away.
Surrender your life to Jesus. To know Him, love Him, and Obey Him.
Once you do this, He will fill you and give you purpose.

WHEN YOU SURRENDER, AND GOD GIVES YOU PURPOSE, DOUBT MAY CREEP IN. BUT PUSH THROUGH.

Explanation:
Verse 21 says Saul doubted himself and thought he wasn’t worthy of the seer giving him purpose.
but in verses 22-27 the seer showed Saul how valued he was. He was taken care of by the seer and loved by the seer. And because Saul didn’t run away and will tough it out through his doubt, the seer blesses him.
Apply:
Doubt may creep in when you surrender to God through Jesus. You may think you aren’t worthy for whatever reason...
BUT just as the seer loved and took care of Saul to show he was valuable, God will love and take care of you to show you that you are valuable. But you must do what Saul did. He trusted the seer and obeyed him.
You must obey the seer (Jesus) to get through doubt about yourself.
