Time:

We are obsessed with time. Time has become a commodity. The well-known saying that “time is money” expresses the prevalence of this sort of thinking. We feel that we must protect “our time.” This seeking to control and neurotically manage time is justified by too many Christians.
Why do we buy into such a false notion of time? One contributor is pride. We enjoy saying that we are busy because that makes us look important (Kinsley, 82; see also Peterson, The Contemplative Pastor, 18). Another factor is that we want to please others. We make too many commitments because we desperately desire the approval of others. A third factor, largely overlooked by Christians, is unease over getting to know God better. Time alone with God may reveal something that needs to be changed.
