Series: The Life Worth Living

Bible Passage: Ps 91:1–16

Summary: The psalmist in Psalm 91 emphasizes God's promise of protection and deliverance for those who trust in Him. He describes God as a refuge and fortress against trials and dangers.
Main Point: We can find God is a special way during difficult times when choose to trust Him as our refuge because He wants to be our protector and source of hope.

1. Secure Shelter: Trust His Presence Ps 91:1–3

Explanation: The first three verses set the foundation of our trust. The psalmist depicts God as a shelter and fortress as an ever-present help in times of trouble. You and I can find peace despite this world’s chaos by dwelling in God’s "secret place.” As NT believers, we know that the Lord is Christ Jesus, and He is inviting us to abide in Him. You and I should seek this refuge daily, especially when you face difficulties and trials. He will be the ultimate source of your hope and strength.

2. Strong Shield: Trust His Faithfulness Ps 91:4–6

Explanation: These three verses describe the extent of God's protection. He is lie a mother bird sheltering its young chicks. This imagery conveys the warmth and safety we find in God's faithfulness. Similarly, Christ shields us through His redemptive work on the cross. You and I need to cling to the cross of Christ when faced with fear, and His promises will assure us and see us safely through to the end.

3. Surprising Safety: Witness His Deliverance Ps 91:7–8

Explanation: Verses 7-8 contrast the chaos of the world around us with the peace we find in Christ when we trust God. Despite external perils, believers can witness God's deliverance, underlining that our safety is assured in Him. This reflects the peace that Christ offers amidst life's storms. Even when you are completely surrounded by turmoil, you can rest assured in God's enduring faithfulness and protection.

4. Steadfast Security: Embrace His Protection Ps 91:9–13

Explanation: Verses 9-13 as they reinforce the assurance of God’s protection for those who make Him their dwelling place. God promises deliverance from danger and victory over spiritual enemies. This can relate to how Christ's victory over sin and death secures our ultimate safety. Confidently embrace God’s protection, recognizing its power over life's challenges.

5. Saving Love: Cherish His Promises Ps 91:14–16

Explanation: These last three verses, verses 14-16, portray the personal assurances from God to those of us who love Him—deliverance, honor, and salvation. God’s love-led protection reflects Christ's sacrificial love, promising eternal security. God desires an intimate of relationship God with us and this inspires hope and resilience. Urge your church to deepen their dependence on God, assured of His attentive care and promises.
