Sermon Series: The Journey of the King:
His preexistence
His incarnation
His death
His resurrection
His exaltation
Today’s sermon title: Jesus is Israel’s promised Messiah.
Here’s why this is super important:
Jesus is a Jew (not Mexican) who fulfilled all the promises of God to his people Israel. You will not understand nor properly apply the person and the work of Christ apart from the Old Testament. Jesus said, “The Scriptures bear witness about me.” (Jn 5:39).
In Luke 24, shortly after his resurrection, Jesus appears to two of his followers whose eyes were kept from recognizing him. They were sad that Jesus was not the Messiah for “we had hoped that he was the one to redeemed Israel.” (Lk 24:21). It doesn’t make sense: He died, was buried, and now the tomb is empty and his body is gone. It doesn’t make sense!
Jesus is Israel’s Promised Messiah
Luke 24:25–27 “25 And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.”
He is in every book of the OT. Let me give you a taste.
