1 In the same way, wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, even if some disobey the word, they may be won over without a word by the way their wives live
2 when they observe your pure, reverent lives.
3 Don’t let your beauty consist of outward things like elaborate hairstyles and wearing gold jewelry or fine clothes,
4 but rather what is inside the heart—the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
5 For in the past, the holy women who put their hope in God also adorned themselves in this way, submitting to their own husbands,
6 just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You have become her children when you do what is good and do not fear any intimidation.
(1) “Submit yourselves to you own husbands”
Ladies why is this such a problem? Submission is a dirty word
Submit-Willing submission underneath the authority of someone else
Could we look at this differently and maybe use the word surrender
Surrender:To cease resistance to enemy or opponent and submit to their authority.
Surrender-In the Bible-a believer completely gives up their own will and subjects his thoughts ideas, and deeds to the will and teachings of a higher power
Surrender is not giving up but rather letting go
Surrender is the action of contentment and gratitude, and knowing when to surrender creates peace, well-being, and space for new experience.
(1) “So that” for this reason.
(1) “even if some disobey” This is describing either a non-christian or a disobedient christian man
Ladies this verse tells us that we can behave, and function in biblical way even when our spouse is unsaved or acting unsaved, tell me about how do we this?
During this season our needs will probably not be meet yet we are still commissioned to meet his.

Beauty is not simply outward

Christian Standard Bible Chapter 3
but rather what is inside the heart,—the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit
What does it mean to have a gentle and quiet spirit?
Does this mean a women simply needs to be quiet and never express her opinion, needs and some of her dreams?
I am try to filter things through 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
4 Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not arrogant,
5 is not rude, is not self-seeking, is not irritable, and does not keep a record of wrongs.
6 Love finds no joy in unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth.
7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
5 For in the past, the holy women who put their hope in God also adorned themselves in this way, submitting to their own husbands,
6 just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You have become her children when you do what is good and do not fear any intimidation.
What does Peter mean when he calls them “holy women”
These are women who in past times who showed a level of godliness in their conduct. Holy means dedicated or consecrated to God, surrendered. They recognized that there is only one Hero in the story and it was their job to glorify or magnify that hero. And in this case as married having godly marriage served the purpose of glorifying God. Their needs and desire though important were secondary to the mission.
What does Peter mean when he says to holy women put your hope in God?
This Is Peter kind way of telling this godly woman on this side of glory her husband may never be all that she dreamed of. There are some qualities he may never have victory over, there are some behavior that he will continue to struggle with until one of you dies.
How will you get through problem while still maintaining joy and peace?
By Hoping in God.
How does this go against the culture?
5 For in the past, the holy women who put their hope in God also adorned themselves in this way, submitting to their own husbands,
6 just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You have become her children when you do what is good and do not fear any intimidation.
What did hoping in God lead the holy women to do?
Submit to their own husbands
Who is our example?
Sarah who followed her Husband throughout the land of Canaan and away from her kinsmen in UR.
Was Sarah perfect?
How is this scripture countercultural?
Men’s Breakout
Men’s Breakout
Personal Testimony about early marriage experiences
Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with a weaker partner, showing them honor as coheirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
(7) Husbands in the same way live with your wives in an understanding way
Men how can we love our wives in a understanding way?
To live with your wife according to knowledge requires that you understand God’s word. But you also need to understand your wife. This involves more than superficial knowledge. More than her favorite foods, places, or brands, know your wife’s moods, views, strengths, needs, fears, hurts, and goals. You can only attain this knowledge by living with your wife in an understanding way. Her parents, girlfriends, and colleagues cannot teach you to know your wife. You must study your wife for yourself. It does not require intense research.
Spend time.
Listen carefully.
Pay attention.
Show concern.
Get involved.
Practice chivalry.
Encourage her.
Men how are women different as it pertains to sexual intimacy?
Men need sex for intimacy, women don’t need sex nessicarily for sexual intimacy
Men can make demands based on their role of authority, but it doesn’t mean they should
Feelings and emotions should inform your words and actions
Men You have heard the quote “Men are like microwaves and women are like crockpots” what does this mean?
Men is it important to understand these differences to help mitigate anger and frustration?
It is a command based on this verse. Just like the verse from last night that requires us to not defraud
Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with a weaker partner, showing them honor as coheirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
Men what does it mean she is the weaker partner?
This is not talking about emotional weakness, spiritual weakness only physical weakness.
What does this scripture tells us we are to do with our wives “show them honor as coheirs of the grace of life”? What does that mean?
What is the final warning in this text?
Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with a weaker partner, showing them honor as coheirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
(7) “so that your prayers will not be hindered”
Men this tells us that God is watching the way you treat your wife, and it will directly affect your prayers to God. God will not hear your prayers if you are not treating your wife in an understanding way
Are the any Question?
