What does Pentecost literally mean?
fiftiethThe name comes from the Greek word pentekoste which means fiftieth. The holiday is celebrated on the seventh Sunday after Easter which is also fifty days after Easter, hence the name. Since its date depends on the date of Easter, Pentecost is a moveable feast, that is, the date is not fixed.
Jewish Roots:Pentecost has roots in the Jewish festival of Shavuot (Feast of Weeks or Harvest), which was celebrated 50 days after Passover.
Birthday of the Church.

Giving of the Torah:Jewish tradition holds that on Shavuot, God gave the Torah to Moses on Mount Sinai, including the Ten Commandments, after the Israelites left Egypt.

While no specific denomination uses "Power of Pentecost" as a formal slogan, the concept of Pentecostalism, which emphasizes the Holy Spirit and its power, is a core tenet of many Pentecostal and Charismatic churches. Here's a more detailed explanation:
Pentecostalism's Core Beliefs:Pentecostalism is a Protestant, Evangelical movement that stresses the importance of direct personal experience of God through the Holy Spirit, often referred to as "baptism with the Holy Spirit".
The Significance of Pentecost:The term "Pentecostal" comes from the biblical event of Pentecost, where the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles and other followers of Jesus.
Emphasis on Spiritual Gifts:Pentecostal churches often emphasize the manifestation of spiritual gifts, such as speaking in tongues, healing, and prophecy, as evidence of the Holy Spirit's power.
Examples of Pentecostal Denominations:Some examples of Pentecostal denominations include the Assemblies of God, the United Pentecostal Church International, and various other Pentecostal and Charismatic churches.
Charismatic Movement:The Charismatic movement is closely related to Pentecostalism and shares many of the same beliefs and practices.
Other Christians:While Pentecostalism is a distinct movement, many other Christians, including Roman Catholics, Anglicans, Lutherans, and Eastern Orthodox, also observe Pentecost as a celebration of the Holy Spirit's descent.

1Corithians 12:1-11

Now, dear brothers and sisters, regarding your question about the special abilities the Spirit gives us. I don’t want you to misunderstand this. 2 You know that when you were still pagans, you were led astray and swept along in worshiping speechless idols. 3 So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God will curse Jesus, and no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit.

4 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. 5 There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 6 God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.

7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. 8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. 9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. 10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. 11 It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.

12 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. 3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. 4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

Galatians 5:22 -23

James 3:8-10 but the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing.
