Music we listen to

Social Media posts that we admire
People we look at
Food/drinks we take pleasure in
Failing Affection we find in others or with others
As Christians, the Bible talks about your body being a temple. A cherished and protected place reserved for Christ, our Creator.
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 “19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
If we are not careful
we can allow music to alter the atmosphere of our temple.
We can allow movies/TV shows to distract from our main purpose of the temple
We can allow social media to highlight ourself rather than Jesus in our temple
We can import drinks that distract and destroy the purpose of the temple
If we are not careful
We can gaze outside our temple and admire the fleeting beauty of others
We can invite the fleeting beauty into our temple and defile the purity
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions.
13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.
14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
To “let not sin reign in your mortal bodies” means that there is something that you can do about it!
lead into the idea of a weapon (we are equipped to overcome sin)
The word “instrument” is also used for weapon. Are you a weapon used by unrighteousness or are you a weapon used for righteousness?
use bow & arrow
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth.
What equips you to be above sin’s dominion?
not under law but under grace.
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 “19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
This series is not about copying my convictions to your temple, a leaders convictions, or a friend’s convictions on your life. We are going to have truthful conversations about your interaction with content and people. Through these conversations let’s be real about the sources that fill our senses. Let’s take an honest evaluation of our lives over these next 4 Wednesdays.
What music, movies, and language do we listen to?
Is there anything wrong with alcohol, smoking, vaping, marijauna?
Does the images, videos, movies I watch affect my life?
Is sex seriously for marriage? What about affection that isn’t specifically sex?

What you put into singing or playing an instrument is what you get out!
WHAT YOU PUT IN IS WHAT YOU PUT OUT!
Think for a second what your senses input is what is going come out. We cant expect the input of garbage to produce beauty.
Recently I was at a High School game and was hanging for the game. They were playing some upbeat fun songs to set vibe of the game. I was enjoying the music and began to listen to the words of one of the songs. The song was attempting tpo highlight the joys of drinking whiskey (RECALL THE SETTING).
The input from the classroom and administration “DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL”
The input of the music at a high school “drinking can be fun”
What takes place in a Christian’s life when there is double input of influence? Only one will take the lead!
21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.
YOU FOLLOW WHAT FUELS YOU! Which table are you dining at? Whose menu are you ordering from?
What is a marker that you are dining at God’s table vs. the devil’s table?
From our listed markers, where are they at your life?
These markers will determine WHO YOU STAND BEFORE
Who you Stand before is who will Send you
Who you Stand before is who will Send you
“Present yourself to sin or present yourself to God”
The Bible sends a command to each of us tonight. What’s the command?
Give me an “OH YEAH” if you agree.
Bump you friend and say thats for you.
Bump your friend and say its more for me!
Romans (1) Dead to Sin, Alive in Christ (6:1–14)
We are no longer to place any part of our bodies at the disposal of sin to be used as an instrument of unrighteousness. If the metaphor is military, Paul was saying, “Don’t let sin take command of any part of your body and use it as a weapon for evil purposes.”36 Instead, we are to present ourselves to God once for all as those who have been brought from death to life.
Weapons bring about 2 Main Outcomes: Destruction & Victory! Your life in the hands of satan and sin will bring destruction. Your life in Jesus’ hand will bring about victory!
Many MS & HS students struggle with self doubt ( which can also lead anxiety) as they’re growing up. They are trying to figure out WHO THEY ARE. Whether that is you tonight or not, KNOW THIS: in the hands of sin there will only be destruction —— in the hands of God there is victory! That is what some of you need tonight - VICTORY!
It’s not just about stopping what’s wrong but it involves redirection. Paul calls on believers to “present yourselves to God.” This implies a decisive move, a break from the ongoing urge to engage the body for unrighteousness.
Sometimes I’m hesitant to talk to God about my sin because I can be torn between wanting to resolve the sin but not make real changes to prevent opportunities for it. As long as we stand before sin, we will regularly be in sin. The moment you start standing before Jesus, He will send you for His mission
WHERE DOES GOD WANT TO SEND YOU?
school
friends
field/court
church
family
local missions
international missions
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF BEING TO SENT TO THESE DIFFERENT AREAS?
to be discipled
disciple others
Matthew 28:19–20 “19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””
WHO YOU STAND BEFORE IS WHO WILL SEND YOU
The one you Give yourself to is the one who will Keep you from the other
The one you Give yourself to is the one who will Keep you from the other
“Sin has no dominion over you because you are under grace”
Something that I continue to struggle with in my life is returning to ask for grace and forgiveness for sins that I have already talked to God about. Almost in a way of shame (God, I messed up again). I easily convince myself that God doesn’t want to hear from me again about this sin.
REALITY is that this is the opposite!
6 In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.
The way we stay with Jesus and out of sin is by regularly calling on Jesus. If you are struggling with school work who do you turn to? (chatGPT).
Some of you are struggling in your spiritual walk and it’s because you are not regularly giving yourself to the ONE who will keep you from sin.
What are the few words of verse 14?
14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
