By show of hands is there anyone in the house who knows that in life things change. And things can change overtime, but sometimes things change quickly. The songwriter said “time if full of swift transition.” One day you are well the next you are fighting for your life. One day you have a little extra money in your pocket, then the next car trouble(Run). And Jesus knows all to well this feeling He is at the height of his popularity and things are about to change.
The time is at hand for Jesus to die. He has come through 42 generations. Born of virgin, the house of David. Lived a sinless life helping the poor, marginalized, and down trodden. Reclaiming the sinner, condemning the his opponents, and leading his people. He effectively discipled, performed miracles, and disclosed the very heart of God. He has comforted the suffering, rebuked the rich, and question authority. And because of, and in-spite of all of that, he is going be crucified.
A lot can change in a week. You know a lot can change in a week. You started out Monday, rested and ready to face the week, but by Friday you ca’t wait to get away from there. Well, by the end of the week Jesus will be betrayed by his beloved friend, deserted by his disciples, lynched by the leaders, sentenced by the Sanhedrin, hear “Crucify Him by the Crowd, and will receive capitol punishment by Pontius Pilate. A lot can change in a week! But it is on this Palm Sunday that we celebrate the Grand Entrance of our Kind into the climax of human history and deliverance. And Jesus does make a grand entrance.
Provide the Means
Provide the Means
I don’t know about you but even in the year 2021 I believe God is still a provider. I believe that God still can and will provide for us.
Jesus tells the disciples it was going to happen.
“the Lord has need of them”
Protest Power
Protest Power
What Jesus does is counter cultural. What he does is not usual, it is unusual. At the height of his popularity and at the place where he could seize power he doesn’t he instead chooses to identify with the people that he has been serving all along (elaborate). He tells his disciples to get a donkey, a beast of burden and not a steed.

What they Seen
Can you thing of any other response to the blessings of God besides praising his holy name? The bible tells us that the crowd that is here at this point are the very people who have been following him for some time. These were Jesus' disciples. This is more than just the twelve we thing of, those are the disciples known as apostles, but Jesus had some other people who began following him and his ways. I can only picture who was there.
I imagine Peters mother in law was there from ch.4
That man whose friends brought him to be healed from ch.
5 was there. That man whose hand was withered and Jesus made it whole in ch.
imagine that the widow and her only son who Jesus brought back from the dead ch.7
the man who lived in the tombs with a Legion of demons in him ch.8
some of those people who ate at Jesus' buffet with two fish and five loafs ch.9
those disciples who Jesus gave power to heal to in ch. 10
that mute man from who Jesus healed his speech in ch. 11
that crippled man healed on the sabbath in ch. 13
those prodigal son's who Jesus talked about in ch. 15
Lazarus who was healed in John 11
The one out of ten lepers cleansed who came back to worship in ch. 17
Blind Bartimaeus who had faith to receive his sight in ch. 18
And a little short tax collector who Jesus forgave in ch.19
And because they had been with him, and learned from him, they had seen and experienced what God was doing through Jesus. So, the logical response is to give God praise for what he has done.
You couldn't do it on your own.God didn't have to do in the first place.
Who would Save
So now these disciples are all caught up in the moment because of what God has done in their lives but that's not the only reason. They now a legal right afforded to them by the King of Kings. They are in procession, and a great procession at that. And the honoree in this procession is non other than the King Himself. Their selected hymn is Psalm 118:26 (quote). This chant or lyric they are shouting is specifically intended to inaugurate the expected Messiah. Or in other words, this song was specially set aside for the arrival of Christ. So when Jesus is now on the scene, the disciples there are celebrating the King in their midst. Many of them, probably didn't understand completely what type of messiah Jesus was going to be, but that's neither here nor there right now. What is important is that they were now finally acknowledging their citizenship of the kingdom of God. Blessed is the King that comes in the name of the LORD.
